I dream of chocolate: Chocolatier Constance Popp -

I dream of chocolate: Chocolatier Constance Popp

I dream of chocolate: Chocolatier Constance Popp

By: Only in the Peg // October 9, 2013 // Shopping

She's a staple on the sugar scene in Winnipeg.

Chocolatier Constance Popp has become synonymous with good chocolate and delectable treats, and is a must-stop spot during any visit to Winnipeg.

When her store on Portage Avenue closed, a large, but thankfully temporary, void was left on the city's chocolate scene (there is one, trust me), but she has now added to the eclectic mix of shops, restaurants and businesses lining Provencher Blvd in the city's historic French quarter, St. Boniface.

Sleek, white and fresh, the soon-to-be neighbourhood staple offers up handcrafted chocolate often made with local ingredients like birch syrup, hemp seeds and sunflower seeds.

The Manitobar--a cute and clever concoction made with hemp and sunflower seeds, local honey and flax all moulded into the shape of Manitoba--is a perfect souvenir.

To keep things fun, she also mixes in themed treats like Halloween lollipops and yes, those are turkey-shaped chocolates you see there. (The giant chocolate turkey--about the size of a soccer ball--would make a rather noteworthy table centrepiece when having out of town guests over for Thanksgiving.)

The shop is also offering savoury treats like buttery cheese croissants and and flakey quiche. Grab an espresso and pull up a chair at one of a few bistro tables as you watch the world go by outside the window.

Just a short distance from the Provencher Bridge, the shop is a great way to extend an afternoon walk through The Forks. (You deserve a treat after all that exercise.)
