Pimp my Rice food truck
Summer 2013 is shaping up to be a banner year for food trucks in Winnipeg.
The city has been a bit late to the food truck party. The first serious wave of street food hit Winnipeg in 2011. Since then, about 15 trucks have started their engines. This year, so far another three will be added to the fleet.
Street food in Winnipeg is a multi-cultural melange that mirrors the city's diverse citizenry.
Filipino, Mexican, Japanese, Thai, Laotian, Italian and Ukranian food trucks all serve up specialties. They join burgers and fry trucks, smokie mobiles, and poutine and chicken wing joints on wheels.
Winnipeg's food trucks hit the streets as soon as spring breaks and the temperature warms up. The 2013 season is off to a slow start. A handful of trucks will hit the roads mid-April, with more following suit each week.
