Pull off the foil and untie that muselet (that’s that champagne cage – feel free to use that French term on the 31st when you are feeling saucy) because Winnipeg is about to go off to ring in 2016.
Here are just some of the great events happening all over the city that you can attend to send off 2016 in style.
The Forks: For starters, The Wawanese Insurance Family New Year’s Eve is FREE, and features two fireworks sessions (8 p.m. and midnight) by world champions Archangel Fireworks.
For the kids, there is live family entertainment, artsy activities, ball hockey, and skating on the newly opened (on-land) ice surfaces, including the canopy rink, 1 km of on land trails and the hockey rink in the Festival Park Stage.
Inside on the main stage the party starts at 5 p.m., with headliners (and Juno award winners) The Bros. Landreth performing at 9 p.m.
On top of all of this, The Common, The Forks Market’s wine and beer kiosk, while be serving until well after midnight while live DJs will be spinning.
RBC Convention Centre Winnipeg: Is holding an elegant NYE affair. Winter’s Eve – A New Year’s Celebration will take place in the stunning new City View Room where a winter wonderland will be out in full force.
Starting at 6 p.m., you can take a stroll through The Forks’ Warming Huts, which will be part of this winter wonderland set, while enjoying hors d’oeuvres and a special performance by Folkorama Talent’s Bolero Dance Theatre.
From there, it is on to a five-course dinner followed by dancing deep into the night (2 a.m.) to the sounds of the Ron Paley 21 Piece Band.

NYE Party: Happiness Hotel – The Second Floor: Hosted by Culture Card, those same hip folks that put on those fabulous HUB events, this party remains a bit of a mystery, so we are just going to present the description as they state on the website:
“Welcome to the Second Floor. Here you will find 5 magical rooms to explore.
Take a seat in our Charlie Chaplin movie theatre. Enter the realm of the Rising Moon gypsies for a mystical experience. Sing your heart out in our open mic lounge. Step into space and try your hand at virtual painting. Let your heart pound to the sound of Taiko drums. Enjoy our Genki feel good space. Sip champagne and listen to jazz.
Lose yourself on our dance floor.
Find yourself wishing it would never end.
Our grand re-opening is a one time thing.
Together we will ignite change and vanish just the same.
It's up to you to get on board. This happiness train.”
Sounds pretty dope right?
