Step into the heart of Winnipeg’s Sports, Hospitality and Entertainment District, where the company is warm and the atmosphere is cool. Tucked just inside the Delta Hotels by Marriott Winnipeg, Blaze Restaurant and Lounge offers modern takes on classic cuisine in an environment that’s polished yet unpretentious; the perfect setting to gather before meeting up with a few thousand friends at Bell MTS Place for a concert, or just a casual after-conference drink with co-workers.
This spring, Executive Chef Edison Antejos, who recently joined the culinary team, has created a menu that certainly encourages group dining. Everyone will want tuck into a plate of house-made BBQ spiced potato chips with garlic aioli, argue over the last smear of warm brie topped with pickled mustard seed, shallot, green apple and confit garlic, or split the banh mi sliders.
If you’re into savouring your own dish (we don’t blame you), the menu still features the restaurant’s signature handhelds and large dish staples, including the well-loved pan-seared arctic char and Blaze Burger -– thick layers of a chuck brisket blend, topped with lettuce, tomato, red onion, special sauce, bacon, aged cheddar, and pickles, all on a soft brioche bun.
Blaze’s burgers also pair really well with playoffs. During every Winnipeg Jet’s home game, the restaurant’s chefs are going to have a little competition of their own – three chefs, three burgers, one battle for the championship. But, the real winners are the customers who can pair their burger pick with a beer and side for just $17.99.
The kitchen’s ability to take a standard dish, like a burger, and give it a little extra flair, translates into innovative daily feature sheets, available at both dinner and lunch. This not only gives local tourists interesting weekday options when they’ve had their fill of mid-day food trucks, but also provides a central locale for casual business luncheons.
A little-known day-part Blaze truly commands is the weekend brunch (7 to 11 a.m.), which features well-executed classics like an eggs benny with sugar and salted cured Canadian bacon, two perfectly poached eggs, and one of the best hollandaise sauces in the city. Lounge near the fireplace and fill up for the day before heading out into the bustle of the busy city.
