Printed Flight explores the worlds of songbirds, insects, and landscapes, through the media of woodcut printmaking, ecological soundscape, and stop-motion animation.

Informed by Matthias’ background as an ecologist and integrating the experiences and soundscapes of both scientific fieldwork and artist residencies, Printed Flight focuses on the small birds and essential insects of our ecosystems. Featuring Matthias’ largest work to date, The Ornithology Collection, a 15-foot woodblock print that emerged from the artist’s in-depth study of natural history specimens at the Royal Alberta Museum.
