Join us to learn about Long-eared owls with expert Jim Duncan.

Jim Duncan and his wife Patsy and have studied Great Gray Owls and Northern Hawk Owls in Manitoba since 1984. In 2015 he wanted to start new research on these species using nest camera traps and they ended up testing the camera on a pair of Long-eared Owls nesting close to their house. The results from this study were presented at the 2019 World Owl Conference in Pune, India, in November. Joining Jim to help deliver this presentation will be Rusty, a live female Long-eared owl. She is one of Discover Owls education ambassadors, a dear feathered friend (as long as the mice keep coming) and a ruthless heckler. Hope she doesn’t steal the show, again! Jim Duncan, a retired biologist with Manitoba’s Wildlife Branch, has studied owls since 1984. In 2018 Jim established a social enterprise called Discover Owls which conducts education, research and conservation programs on owls in Manitoba and around the world. To date he has delivered over 550 talks on owls and conservation.
