Guide to planning a three-day adventure with the Winnipeg Attractions Pass

The  Winnipeg Attractions Pass makes for the perfect way to discover some of Winnipeg’s top attractions –– all while saving you up to 35 per cent off!

Featuring one or three-day options, this unique online pass gives discounted access to the Manitoba Museum, Canadian Museum for Human Rights, Royal Aviation Museum of Western Canada, FortWhyte Alive and Royal Canadian Mint. The pass gets sent via email and text and is activated at the first attraction it's used at.

Once purchased, you have 90 days to activate the pass until it expires.

Here's how to make the most out of your Winnipeg Attractions Pass!

Day 1

Rise, shine, and make some...coin? Let’s activate that Attractions Pass at the  Royal Canadian Mint, open daily from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m.

It's the perfect spot to start –– and a worldly one at that. As you drive toward the facility, you’ll notice a row of flags lining the outside of the building. Each of these flags represents one of 73 countries that The Mint has minted coins for. On a tour, you'll see and learn how this state-of-the-art high-volume manufacturing facility produces coinage that circulate across the globe, along with cranking out and styling every coin used by Canadians in everyday transactions (dimes, quarters, loonies, etc.). It's a real treat for both engineering and visual arts buffs alike, while kids will relish experiences like holding a silver bar and using the interactive exhibits that tests their world knowledge.

After exploring this one-of-a-kind attraction (and maybe getting a cool souvenir from its popular gift shop), head over to  Osborne Village and get a glimpse of the city’s creative side. This eclectic and artsy Winnipeg neighbourhood features lots of shopping and dining options so it’s the perfect spot to kick off the weekend. Plus, this area contains a few of the city’s best live music bars and watering holes.

Feeling hungry? Head over to the Village’s main strip where you can find Winnipeg staples like  A Little Pizza HeavenNaru Sushi and the incredibly popular and much celebrated dual-concept, Crumb Queen/Andy's Lunch. If you're in the area for dinner, Sous Sol provides a candlelit atmosphere serving excellent French fare all hosted by some of the city's best (and hippest) serving staff, while Zaytoon is one of the city's top Middle Eastern spots, serving up delectable dishes like falafel, kubbeh and grilled lamb chops in a bright, inviting setting.

If you’re craving dessert, you can go over to  Baked Expectations and try their Shmoo Torte – a Winnipeg specialty that features angel food cake layered with pecans, whipped cream and caramel sauce. There’s also Kawaii Crepe or Chocoberry which are amazing options as well!

After lunch, getting your boarding pass (ahem, attractions pass) ready for the  Royal Aviation Museum of Western Canada (open daily from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m.). This modern facility showcases the region's triumphant (and occasionally whacky) history of flight via many artifacts that you can climb aboard. You'll scratch your head at early machines like open-air helicopters, marvel at experimental spaceships that were built here (seriously) and admire Cold War relics like the sleek CF-104 Starfighter. Something to note: The Royal Aviation Museum of Western Canada remains one of the largest and most complete aviation heritage collections in Canada. Plus, kids cannot get enough of its space-themed play area and its Landing Zone Boutique, which is brimming with nice swag and (of course) countless model airplanes for purchase.

Day 2

Start your day off bright and early at one of the Exchange District or downtown's brunch spots.  Clementine is the only strictly brunch spot found on the Canada's 100 Best restaurant guide, and has been touted by The Globe and Mail (and pretty much anyone who visits) as the top brunch spot in the country. Another gem is Modern Electric Lunch, located right on Main Street looking out toward the Canadian Museum for Human Rights, your first stop.

The  CMHR (open 10 a.m. – 5 p.m., Tuesday to Sunday) is an architectural marvel and the first museum solely dedicated to the evolution, celebration and future of human rights. Outside, you'll notice the facility’s intricate glass design, while inside the ever-climbing interactive exhibits will take you from darkness to light. With galleries and exhibits surrounding themes about human rights both in Canada and other places in the world, the CMHR melds modern technology, storytelling and art to create an immersive experience that emphasizes the importance of rights for all people.

After the CMHR, stroll through Winnipeg’s historic  Exchange District, which is only a ten-minute walk from the museum. In this neighbourhood, you can discover unique boutiques, art galleries and eateries. You might even see a Hollywood of Hallmark production being filmed on its streets, as this handsome area often is a stand-in for New York and Chicago. And while you’re there, be sure to use your Winnipeg Attractions Pass at the Manitoba Museum (open daily from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m.).

In the museum, you’ll discover numerous artifacts and some pretty incredible fossils that present the history of the region. From a 90-million-year old intact pliosaur that once hunted the inland seas during the Cretaceous period, to massive dioramas depicting 19th-century Métis bison hunts, to the famed 17th-century life-sized replica ketch called the Nonsuch (which you can board), there's no shortage of wondrous sites throughout its galleries. Kids and adults alike will love taking in one of the daily Planetarium shows, while the interactive Science Gallery provides hours
of entertainment too.

Day 3

Start the day in the great outdoors at  FortWhyte Alive (open 9 a.m. to 9 p.m. Monday to Thursday; Friday, Saturday and Sunday from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m.). Located in the southwest of Winnipeg, this 660-acre urban oasis is truly something that can’t be missed. Trails through the aspen forests are great for hiking, biking and checking out wildlife –– particularly a stunning area of migrating birds and year-round avian residences. You can also grab breakfast or brunch from the Buffalo Stone Café while looking out onto its lakes (which you can either sail, canoe or ice fish on, depending on the season).

Just a stone’s throw away from FortWhyte Alive is Seasons of Tuxedo where you can check out Outlet Collection Winnipeg, IKEA and several other big-box stores and local eateries. For families, the Golf Dome or the Rec Room are also fun-filled options that will surely entertain.
