Get your earplugs ready because Monster Jam, the heart-stopping, crowd-pleasing, larger-than-life monster truck extravaganza is back in town on Sunday! Sunday! SUNDAY! (and Saturday) for multiple shows at Bell MTS Place.
And if you and the kids are looking to shift your weekend in Winnipeg up few gears, here’s a detailed itinerary that will ensure your trip is anything but a Northern Nightmare.
Where to stay
How about some sweet deals to go along with those big wheels? We’ve partnered with Victoria Inn Hotel and Convention Centre (which also features Dino Beach Water Park) and Holiday Inn Winnipeg South for special shop and stay packages all month long. Book either hotel and you’ll also receive a gift card for Outlet Collection Winnipeg, our city’s newest mall and only outlet shopping destination.
What to do
On your drive into town on Friday evening, why not roll on over to Canada Inns Winter Wonderland, Manitoba’s largest drive-thru light show (November 30 - January 5) featuring a brilliant presentation of over one million lights. On Fridays and Saturdays, you can also enjoy a complimentary sleigh ride, complete with built in fireplace.
On Saturday morning, take a trip over to the Royal Canadian Mint. Not only is it one of Winnipeg’s most beautiful buildings, the guided tour, which shows the process of actual coin-making, is worth every penny. Don’t forget to pick up (literally) a $600,000 gold bar while you’re there and buy something that you can actually take home with you from the gift shop. We’ve also got a great two for one deal here.
In the afternoon, head downtown for a trip through history at the Manitoba Museum. In addition to the nine permanent galleries, including the newly revitalized Nonsuch Gallery, you can also catch a planetarium show featuring one of the world’s most advanced projection systems. The museum’s current premiere exhibition is called Hockey: Stories Behind Our Passion, featuring an interactive experience showcasing the high points of Canada’s favourite sport.
Of course, let’s not forget about the real reason your here: Monster Jam. Grab a bite to eat before the show at one of the many restaurants within walking distance of Bell MTS Place then settle in (get geared up) for the big show. If you still haven’t purchased your tickets, get them before they’re gone.
As you pack up on Sunday morning and get ready to head back home, don’t forget you’ve got to spend that gift card that’s been burning a hole in your pocket. Make one last trip over to Outlet Collection Winnipeg (open at 9 a.m. on Sundays) in Seasons of Tuxedo, a 10-minute drive from both Victoria Inn and Holiday Inn Winnipeg South. The retail destination features nearly 100 acres of shopping and some of our best kid-friendly restaurants. Right next door you’ll also find one of Canada’s largest IKEAs.
