Why would you dare head south of the border to take part in the chaos of Black Friday when sweet savings (and a sane environment) are happening all weekend long here in Winnipeg?
When there is a weekend's worth of savings, there's no need to sleep outside so you can get into an electronic store first (all while risking life and limb while being trampled for the world to see on YouTube).

Malls
Over 30 stores are having individual Black Friday sales at CF Polo Park, central Canada’s largest shopping mall. Deals of note include Banana Republic, where you can get 50% off 5 items with no exclusions from November 23-27; H&M, where deals are as low as $5 in all departments; and Town Shoes, where (until November 27) you will receive a “Shoe”prise card with every purchase, with each card worth up to $500 off your next purchase from December 5-20.
Kildonan Place will be open bright and early at 8:00am with great deals throughout the mall until 9:00pm. They’re also rewarding “Happy Shopper Card” loyalty cardholders (which you can pick up for FREE at Guest Services) with a free gift, along with bonus stamps to earn your way to draws and prizes. Shoppers can also meet Happybot, the latest addition to the Kildonan Place family. He’s an interactive touch screen “robot” located at centre court who prints out coupons and tells jokes.
Grant Park will be open regular hours during Black Friday (10 a.m.- 9 p.m.) where customers can find great deals throughout the mall in a relaxed, comfortable environment.
Shop the Exchange
Over 50 unique, locally owned shops and boutiques are all within walking distance of one another in Winnipeg’s handsome, historical Exchange District. Here are some of the great deals that can be found:
- HUT K (200 Princess Street) has a huge sale on two brands that will see you paying wholesale prices. All Gus* Modern products are 15% off from November 25-28, and all Nanimarquina Rugs are 40% off from November 25-December 1.
- Select silver jewellery will be 25-50% off at Sutton Smithworks (103-250 McDermot Avenue).
- AVEDA (80 Rorie Street) Institute is hosting a fabulous Black Friday "Friends and Family Event" the entire weekend from the 25th to 27th. You can get exclusive savings on all AVEDA products while they will be serving Holiday Tea and offering hand, neck and shoulder massages
- Canadian Goodwill (70 Princess Street) is having a 50% off everything sale on Friday
- Red River Book Store (92 Arthur Street) does a sliding scale sale, where if you spend $30 you get up to 30% off (it also works as spend $15, get 15% off, etc).
Big Box Stores
All along the big box store strip malls of south Kenaston there will be plenty of deals to be had, and you can bet that stores like Cabela's, HomeSense, and Best Buy will be rocking. Some sales of note we've found include:
- IKEA, where deals will be available all weekend long. They include 15% off all living room seating, Besta, and TV benches. 20% off all rugs; buy one, get one free on all soft toys, and you'll receive a $20 coupon when you buy a $20 tree. On Black Friday only, the first 200 customers will get $50 off of the purchase of a $200 coupon, while the first 500 customers will get a free breakfast coupon.
- Best Buy just put out their Black Friday flyer (which you can find here) and there are some ridiculous savings including $400 off of '55 Samsung Smart LED TVs, and door crasher savings of up to $200 off of hp laptops and '40 Sharp 1080p LED TVs, along with Bose headphones (which we all know have the best sound quality) for only $99.99.
