Sure there are trees and pathways and wildlife-like things like cute baby ducks and gophers and geese.
These are the kinds of things you'd expect from Assiniboine Park.
But this is a huge park (bigger than Central Park in New York I'm told) and, well, nestled in amongst the foliage are a few neat surprises you might not know about.
Interestingly enough, both of these little treasure come in the form of transportation.
The first is a bonafide miniature steam train where kids and adults alike can hop aboard and get an intimate view of the park with that authentic coal fired scent waving in the breeze. Situated amongst the trees near the Adventure Playground, it's a must visit on any trip to the park.
It's $2.75 ($3 if you use Interac) per person and runs daily from noon to 6 p.m. until September long weekend.
The second fun way to get around the park is the new double decker bus they've just acquired. Making stops at all the major hotspots around the park, it's a must-try while you're there. Obviously, going up to the second level is practically required. (Although it does tend to fill up.)
Circling the park from the zoo, to the duck pond, to the conservatory, to the Pavilion (not in that particular order), it's a fun and free way to get around... and who doesn't love a tall red bus? (You can pretend you're Harry Potter. Or the Spice Girls. It's your choice.)
The bus runs daily from 10am to 6pm until Thanksgiving weekend.
