Embrace the joys of winter: Festival du Voyageur returns to Winnipeg

By: Only in the Peg // February 5, 2024

Bundle up and get ready to raise your glass (of Caribou, of course) because the 55th edition of Festival du Voyageur is soon upon us! HéHo!

From February 16 to 25, 2024, Parc du Voyageur will host the annual winter event celebrating the region's fur-trading, Métis, Indigenous and Francophone history through music, visual arts, dance and sculpture in the heart of Saint-Boniface.

This cool cultural celebration will warm your heart (and your toes) and ignite your Joie de Vivre.

Here’s what you can expect for this year’s event

Prepare to be serenaded by over 150 diverse musical artists featured in this year's program, showcasing talent from Manitoba, Canada, and beyond. Music genres vary by tent, but expect a wide variety of rock, indie, pop and rap music. From the infectious rhythms of The Strumbellas and K’naan, to the homegrown sounds of The Lytics and Amos the Kid, the festival will have you tapping your toes and dancing on endless wood shavings.

But it's not just about the music. Festival du Voyageur is also a celebration of art, culture, and community. As you wander through Parc du Voyageur, be sure to gather around the Infinity Fire, where stories and presentation will be shared. Captivating installations of Indigenous art are also scattered throughout the park, including a brand new Indigenous art gallery showcasing local works.

From fiddling and jigging competitions to beard growing contests and pea soup cook-offs, there's no shortage of Francophone fun for all ages. Kids can look forward to horse sleigh rides, playgrounds, maple taffy making and sliding tubes.

Similar to last year, visitors can enjoy reduced lines thanks to day or night timed ticketing options. Beat the onsite admission lines by pre-purchasing your tickets on Festival du Voyageur's mobile app or website, on which you can also browse schedules, event locations, activities and learn about the artists.
