The only thing that the Radisson Winnipeg, by Canad Inns overlooks is downtown Winnipeg.
That's what Mister Peg and I learned on our most recent staycation there last weekend.
When we first checked into our rooms -- which was a breeze, as the Radisson's staff are always excellent -- we were blown away. Our room was outstanding, featuring pristine amenities along with one of the best views on the prairies with Winnipeg spread out as far as the eye could see.
You cannot beat the night views from the Radisson's rooms (Tourism Winnipeg)
After a full spring break of entertaining Lil, it was nice that auntie Peg was able to come over to spend the night with our little one, so Mister and I could have some alone time.
We had tickets to the Winnipeg Jets vs the Vancouver Canucks game on Saturday (that thrilling 5-4 win! #gojetsgo) and the Radisson was our obvious choice for a downtown hotel. We took advantage of their Weekend Romance package, which included a spacious suite (with access to the club floor), overnight parking & Sunday Brunch for 2 at The MET.
The Radisson is pretty much next door to MTS Centre, so it's a prime location if you are in town for a show or game, while all of Winnipeg's other excellent live music and theatre venues are right at your door step.
Mouthwatering tenderlion with sweet potato shoestrings is one of the main new cuts at Resto 12 (Tourism Winnipeg)
While we knew all this beforehand, what came pleasantly surprising for us was the marvellous meal we had at the newly revamped Resto 12, the Radisson's 12th floor restaurant.
Resto 12 -- whose views of the downtown really can't be beat -- has recently gone more upscale with a menu that is focused on 30 day aged, AAA prime grade cuts of Canadian beef. For starters we shared the bruschetta, which featured both a tea-smoked chicken version with apple, pecan and brie, along with a more traditional tomato version with fried basil, balsamic and chèvre.
For entrées I had the 10 oz tenderloin (pictured above) which was outstanding -- perfectly cooked and melt in your mouth tender. Mister dug into his Manitoba pickerel meunière which was served on top of a bean and lentil cassoulet with bacon -- a marriage of flavours that tasted like a high-end shore lunch.
The strawberry semifreddo at Resto 12 (Tourism Winnipeg)
Our dessert was also sublime, a strawberry semifreddo with a chocolate cookie top that had a nice play of textures. It was an ideal way to end our meal before the game.
We'll certainly be back to Resto 12 to celebrate a special night with friends, while I also made a note to bring my next clients to Resto 12 for a business lunch above the backdrop of the city.
After the game, we came back to our room and took some much needed down time, just hanging out in our robes. We ordered a bottle of bubbly from room service, then sipped the night away while taking in the expansive city views.
I tell you, It was just so nice to get a new perspective of your home city.
In the morning, seeing that it was Easter Weekend, we were pleasantly surprised to be one of the first customers to Canad Inns adjacent property, the Metropolitan Entertainment Centre, for their inaugural Sunday brunch service (which was included in our Weekend Romance Package).
The new Sunday Brunch at the Met is going to become a Winnipeg institution (Canad Inns)
I tell you the timing couldn't have been better as our Manitoba-inspired brunch at the MET -- which if you haven't been is a luxurious, classy room with old world charm -- will now become a standard for us Pegs.
From 10 a.m.- 2p.m. they do a stately buffet brunch service for only $34.99 for adults, which includes a champagne cocktail. (It's only $19.99 for seniors and children, $9.99 for kids aged 4-12, and free for kids under 3).
The indulgent spread features a host of fine items like salmon en croute (one of Mister's favourites, in fact if you wrap anything in buttery pastry he is sold), peameal-crusted bacon benedicts, Bothwell cheddar soup, a crispy waffle bar (with berry compote and whip cream, of course), an omelette station, and a fabulous carving station featuring a maple-glazed leg of ham with some delectable sauces. (And that's just a fraction of the offerings -- seriously, bring your appetite if you plan to do some serious sampling).
Dear lord, it was all so heavenly -- and I didn't even mention the delectable desserts, like mini maple crème brules and slices of shmoo torte.
Mark my words that the MET is going to become downtown's new premier Sunday Brunch locale; how could it not with such an incredible array in such a stunning setting?
We'll certainly be back soon, so we'll be seeing you there.
