Loving dogs is another way Winnipeggers are so welcoming and nice. Play, eat and overnight in Winnipeg at places that open doors for you AND your fur child!
If your canine could talk, this is what he might say:
- “Let’s eat!” – ice cream licks for kicks
- “Let’s sniff around.” – shop for books and rocks or groom the locks
- “Cut to the chase.” – walk and run with tours and off-leash parks for dogs
- “K. Tired now.” – get a woof overhead at a pet-friendly hotel
“Let’s eat!” – Ice Cream Licks for Kicks
Check out this recent post of dog-friendly patios for when the humans need to replenish. Places like The Beer Can, Corrientes and others are so nice, they will bring out a water dish for Buddy.
For ice cream, however, places like Dug & Betty’s, named after InFerno’s original owner Fern Kirouac Sr.’s basset hounds, have many online rufferals. Share a Dashing Dug Sundae with Charlie or treat Coco to a cone.
Or head over to Bonnycastle dog park and then “pup” by Fête Ice Cream and Coffee next door for some housemade treats and pup cones. If you’re lucky, you might even make the “Doggie Wall of Fame.”
“Let’s Sniff Around” – Shop for books and shoes (not for chewing)
The nice people at Whodunit Mystery Bookstore on Lilac Street let you browse the books with your dog on a leash while searching for the latest release or a classic.
While Whodunit offers a full range of crime fiction, what isn’t nicer than a dog mystery, not as in “where’s the dog, honey” but mysteries where a prodogonist figures out the crime, presumably using the sniffer. Look for dog titles like The More the Terrier, The Silence of the Chihuahuas, Dog On It or Murder at the Puppy Fest.
The beauty of having a lapdog you can carry is being able to shop the shops of Outlet Collection Winnipeg, a tony-feeling space with DSW Designer Shoe Warehouse, Saks Off 5th and more. Blue collar tykes welcome.
After a long shopping spree, treat Bella to luxury relaxation at Barks n’ Bubble Pet Spa Inc. or a pawdicure at The Pawsh Dog - which is also a great spot for doggy day camp. Be sure to admire your nice (and good) girl.
“Cut to the Chase” – Walk and run through art and parks
Take your pal for a stroll through the Leo Mol Sculpture Garden in the Assiniboine Park. Leashed friends are welcome inside the garden – as long as they’re well behaved and don’t go too mutts!
Near the lovely Pagoda Gardens in King’s Park is a wide open off-leash area for Max to run, fetch, swim and socialize with other like-minded critters. You’ll also meet other nice dog people out tossing discs for their happy dogs.
Brenda Leipsic Dog Park is partially open within the wooden fence area. Check here for many other off-leash parks for you and your pet to get exercise. He runs. You stoop and scoop. It’s the leashed you could do.
