How your Activate experience has changed
In the latest Summer Saved video, our Tourism Winnipeg hosts Sarah Robinson and Cody Chomiak level up at Activate. This is an immersive video game-like experience that will have you running, jumping and sweating as you play the role of an avatar in a series of rooms that are like old-school 8-bit video games.
Adam Schmidt, owner of Activate talks about some of the changes they've made this summer to ensure that everyone is safe while having an experience like no other.
"We have limited our capacity, the government wants us to do 50 per cent, we're actually doing 25 per cent,” says Schmidt.
“We've made a lot of changes in there that actually allow us to do a lot more game time.”
Players are now encouraged to stay in gaming rooms longer, offering the chance to level up even further.
Using technology to their advantage, once you walk away from a game the room shifts into cleaning mode. A pentagon outside will flash red and notify staff to come over and fully clean the room.
“Once we go into the room the programming will actually put in red all of the different buttons that have been touched. We will clean those with the wipes and then we will use the ULV fogger with an analyte solution to fog the room.”
The Real Escape
Schmidt’s other in-room entertainment experience, The Real Escape, is following the same protocols.
“There, you’re in the room for the full hour but we are using the same cleaning procedures and we’re cleaning down all the touch points and we also have a ULV fogger there as well, so we’re fogging the entire room.”
Transport yourself to Oz on your next visit – The Real Escape’s newest room opened earlier this month and players are assigned the task of rescuing Toto before that wicked old witch gets to him first.
