We’re keeping boredom at bay while also sharing some more love for local with another instalment of our Winnipeg Maker Showcase series.
This week we’re chatting with Olaf Pyttlik from Across the Board about his top recommendations on games to play with your family, your roommates, and even your friends, virtually.
Across the Board Game Café in the Exchange District is home to approximately 1200 board games and a handful of gaming experts to help you along the way.
While the café is temporarily closed, its online store is packed with hundreds of games to purchase – and staff will even deliver them right to your door!
⠀
Olaf’s top picks:
Labyrinth: Perfect for family game night, this easy to learn board game involves tiles that you move around as you play to block opponents.
Patchwork: A game for just two players, Patchwork lets you arrange pieces on a ‘quilt’ to collect as many points as you can.
Just One: This award-winning game is great for groups, where players guess one word clues. This game could also work for virtual playing, too.
Ticket to Ride: This classic, best-selling game is easy to learn and great for families and groups of 2-5 players. You build a train track around North America and collect points along the way.
Concept or Concept Kids: Play with two or more players and navigate the board with different symbols and shapes to get other players to guess secret words. It could also be played virtually.
Exit Games: These games can be played with just one player, as a great way to take a break from screen time and solve puzzles on your own, or with others.
Tiny Towns: Great for one to six players in real life or virtually, this game involves creating a town on your own 4x4 grid.
Puzzles: Opt for some quiet time with one of their many high-quality puzzles available for purchase and delivery, too.
If you’re still feeling indecisive, visit Across the Board's Instagram for one of many short explanations like this one by game experts on the premise of some of the store's best-sellers.
