Winnipeg winter stress busters to get you through the holiday season

Treat yule-self to one of these winter R&R options in The Peg

By: Carly Peters for Only in the Peg // December 19, 2019 // Attractions, Nightlife, Outdoor Activities, Shopping, Spas, Winter

Buying gifts, visiting family, and just the general hustle and bustle of the season leaves little time for self care. This winter, make the holidays feel less hectic by treating yule-self to one of these winter R&R options.

Get toasty at The Forks

There’s more details to come on Sauna Winnipeg, the latest, steamy attraction at The Forks. The new 12-person sauna is sure to get guests through the long winter months (it’s set to stay open until roughly March), and melt all that seasonal tension away. Make sure to pop into The Forks Market after for a bite and a pint at The Common, or work up a different kind of sweat on the one kilometre of in-land skating trails, where you can glide through the blissful beauty of winter all across The Forks.

Buy yourself something nice

The Outlet Collection Winnipeg is the city’s newest shopping destination and offers something for everyone on your list, including you. From Kate Spade, to Michael Kors, to Saks Off Fifth, there’s over 100 popular outlet brands to browse. Don’t forget to stop by Guest Services for their complimentary gift wrapping (with a receipt for purchases of $50+) if you feel like pretending to be surprised when you open your gift to yourself on December 25th.

Try your luck

It’s a guaranteed bet that you’ll begin to forget that holiday hustle when you’re at Winnipeg’s two premiere casinos - McPhillips Station and Club Regent. Rivalling the bright lights of Vegas, you’ll be dazzled by Club Regent’s gaming floor, and the latest bingo machines, slots, and table games in McPhillips’ contemporary setting. Don’t feel like putting your chips down? Then come to check out some of the stellar headlining acts on Club Regent Event Centre’s main stage, or test out one of the exciting cocktails at Lot 180, McPhillips’ new chic and sleek lounge.

This spa’s for you

Take a day to unwind at Thermëa by Nordik Spa-Nature, a Scandinavian-style spa set amongst the pine trees and snow. Let the stress soak out of you in thermal pools; indulge your senses in Finnish saunas; treat yourself to the best in body treatments and massage therapy. Then, finish your day with some exquisite dining in your robe because hey, you're worth it.

Stay away

If you’re in town visiting family and don’t feel like cramming into aunt Gladys’ guest room, book your winter stay at one of Tourism Winnipeg’s Holiday Shop & Stay partner hotels. Whether it’s the lavish Fort Garry Hotel or the residential-style MainStay Suites Winnipeg, you’re sure to wake up feeling refreshed and ready to take on the holidays.
