Don't be the last Jedi to Central Canada Comic Con

By: Only in the Peg // October 18, 2017

If you thought the Guardians of the Galaxy had an interesting cast of characters, wait until you see the crowds that come out for Winnipeg’s Central Canada Comic Con (C4).

C4 is the RBC Convention Centre Winnipeg’s annually most-attended event. Throughout its three days you can expect to mix and mingle with upwards of 50,000 fans, many of whom will blow you away with their devotion to cosplay.

Of course, the stars come out for it too, along with your favourite comic book and graphic novel artists and writers.

This year’s celebs include Gimli himself from the Academy Award-winning Lord of the Rings trilogy – Mr. John Ryhs-Davies, whose body of work also includes the Indiana Jones films and so much more; former pro wrestler and UFC Hall of Famer Ken Shamrock; Renée O'Connor – whom fans will know as Xena Warrior Princess’ sidekick Gabrielle; and actor/renaissance man Jay Baruchel, whose credentials includes Knocked Up, the How to Train your Dragon films (voice), and most recently co-starring in the Winnipeg-based production Love Sick.

In fact, Baruchel himself is the chief creative officer of Chapterhouse Publishing, a new(ish) Canadian comic company (which is also the largest comic book published in the country) that is home to the iconic Canadian superhero Captain Canuck. In fact, Chapterhouse’s Richard Comely – who published Captain Canuck here in Winnipeg back in 1975 – will also be at C4, along with a dozen other members of the Chapterhouse team. C4’s Artist Alley will also feature a stunning roster of animators, artists and more, whose works span the DC and Marvel universes.

For gamers, C4 will host a number of video game tournaments for titles including League of Legends, Hearthstone, Overwatch, Counter-Strike: Global Offensive, and more.

For cosplayers, this event is like Halloween on East German steroids (which is surely how superheroes get so buff, right?), with hundreds of participants vying for the title in six different categories. This will all be judged by celebrity cosplayers LeeAnna Vamp, WindoftheStars, and Rian Synnth.

Plus, there are so many attractions, especially for you gearheads! Historically, C4 has been the place to be to get behind the wheel of icons like Dr. Brown’s Delorean – which will be returning this year! – while you can also see the Chevy Impala from Supernatural, along with several slick cars that have been fabricated as odes to stormtroopers, Spider-Man and more.

On top off that, there will also be a live wrestling tournament by CWE (Canadian Wrestling’s Elite), the chance for photo ops and Q&As with the aforementioned celebrities, an Industry Night Awards Ceremony; K-pop dancing; and so much more!

C4 runs from Friday, October 27 to Sunday, October 29 at the RBC Convention Centre Winnipeg. For a full schedule, tickets, and more  click here.
