Five new spring experiences at The Fort Garry Hotel

Comedy, facials, and brunch buffets

By: Riley Chervinski // April 9, 2024 // Accommodations, Spas

Shake off those winter blues –– spring in Winnipeg just got much more exciting with The Fort Garry Hotel, Spa and Conference Centre’s lineup of new experiences and offerings.

From unique stay packages that let you explore more of the city, to live entertainment in the Club Room and new spa treatments at Glo Skin Bar + Dispensary, here's what's new and notable this spring at one of Winnipeg's most iconic landmarks.

1. Relax and Explore Package

Kick off your Winnipeg adventure with the  Relax and Explore package, which lets you combine your luxury accommodation with cultural exploration in the city.

Stay for one night at The Fort Garry Hotel, Spa and Conference Centre and receive two adult Winnipeg Attractions passes, which grant you access to five of Winnipeg’s top sights, including the Manitoba Museum, Canadian Museum for Human Rights, FortWhyte Alive, and more.

This is a great deal, especially if you’ve been looking for an excuse to visit some of these spots. The package also includes self-parking for one vehicle, making it easy to explore the sites. It's the perfect way to explore the city's rich history all while enjoying the comforts of one of its most storied hotels.

Learn more about the Relax and Explore package at fortgarryhotel.com.

2. Signature Holiday Brunch Buffet Returns

The Fort Garry Hotel, Spa and Conference Centre’s much-loved signature brunches have made a grand return this spring.

After selling out the Easter Sunday Brunch on March 31, diners still have the chance to experience the grandeur of the Mother’s Day Brunch on May 12, which is the perfect way to spoil your matriarch. The brunch buffet menu by the extraordinary culinary team at The Fort Garry Hotel has something for everyone (seriously, there are six stations, each with a hugely varied menu of offerings), from carvery stations to decadent desserts.

These offerings include a fresh, vibrant salad bar, an assortment of housemade baking (the famed Fort Garry Hotel sourdough included), Quebec artisanal cheeses, and an entire buffet station dedicated to fish and seafood, with large poached shrimp, snow crab legs, fresh-shucked oysters, and smoked salmon. A mimosa bar, chocolate fountain, and a gelato cart that's all made in house round it all off.

Reservations can be made via OpenTable in available time slots between 10 a.m and 3 p.m. Learn more at fortgarryhotel.com/mothers-day-brunch.

3. Club Room Events: Comedy Nights and Karaoke Live

This spring, the Club Room at The Fort Garry Hotel, Spa and Conference Centre becomes the go-to spot for entertainment.
Enjoy a weekly dose of laughter at  Yuk Yuk’s Winnipeg, featuring national stand-up comedians every Friday and Saturday night. Yuk Yuk’s international stand-up comedy company opened its newest Canadian location in The Fort Garry Hotel’s Club Room – on the lower level – in February 2023.

Upcoming comedy shows include  Byron Bertram (April 12 & 13), Todd Ness (April 19-20), Jason Rouse (April 26 & 27), Kyle Lucey (May 3 & 4), Mike Dambra (May 10 & 11), Hunter Collins (May 17 & 18), Steven Simeone (May 24-25), and Kenny Robinson (May 31-June 1).

Comedy not your style? Then grab the mic at Karaoke Live, hosted on Thursday nights by Lisa Windsor, and sing along with a live band, The Fort Garry Four, featuring some of Winnipeg’s top musicians.

Upcoming Shows: April 11, and April 25

4. Ten Spa & Glo Skin Bar – Ultimate Relaxation

Escape the icy, grey days of spring and enjoy the ultimate relaxation experience at Ten Spa, located on the hotel’s tenth floor.

Known for its luxurious treatments, including the Turkish hamam experience, Ten Spa now offers an Ultimate Day Pass, which includes the use of all spa amenities and refreshments, as well as a one-hour hamam experience. This unique hot air bathing ritual begins in the tea room with mint tea and Turkish Delight, followed by a self-administered salt scrub, guided by a hamam attendant. The Ultimate Day Pass ($79) is available to book Monday to Thursday.

For even more pampering, consider treating yourself to the new LIFT facial at Glo Skin Bar + Dispensary (located within Ten Spa). Cheekily marketed as ‘Winnipeg’s Best Facelift’, this luxurious anti-aging facial is designed to target wrinkles and fine lines while improving skin elasticity.

All of Glo Skin Bar’s facials, peels,  and other services are performed by expert Ten Spa-trained estheticians who will work with you to personalize your treatments for your skin type and condition (best of all, you can bundle your Glo Skin Bar treatments with a day pass to Ten Spa for the use of all spa amenities and refreshments).

Learn more about the LIFT facial, including the eight-step process, at gloskin.ca/facials.

Note: Ten Spa guests receive a 15 per cent discount on guest room bookings at the Fort Garry Hotel on the day of their spa service. Learn more at tenspa.ca.

5. Vida's New Menu Evolves

Vida Cucina Italia, nestled inside the lobby of The Fort Garry Hotel, Spa and Conference Centre, is launching an evolved menu, with even more handmade pastas, shareable plates, and seasonal Italian specialties.

In case you missed it, Executive Chef Rosanna Marziale and Resident Chef Fabrizio Rossi are at the helm of this upscale Italian eatery, guiding diners through a refined selection of modern, traditional dishes.

Every dish on Vida’s updated menu, which now includes nine pastas––six of which are fresh––is crafted to showcase the unadulterated flavours of its ingredients.

Guests can also try two of Chef Marziale’s dishes that earned a Michelin star in Italy. ‘La Pizza al Contrario’ is a special dish with a base made of stretched buffalo mozzarella DOP –– a technique called ‘rimozzare’ developed by chef Marziale –– topped with crispy bread, San Marzano DOP tomatoes, basil cream, basil leaves and a drizzle of extra virgin olive oil. Palla di mozzarella ripiena di tagliolini al basilico features buffalo mozzarella DOP filled with taglioni (a long, thin pasta) and basil cream, which is breaded and fried like arancini, then placed on two sauces –– one featuring pomodorino del Piennolo del Vesuivio (grape tomatoes from Naples) and one made with peas, so you get this gorgeous pop of red and green like the Italian flag.

Reservations can be made at vidacucinaitalia.com.

Whether you’re a local looking for a staycation, exploring the city for the first time, or simply in search of new dining and entertainment options,  The Fort Garry Hotel, Spa and Conference Centre has plenty of fresh, new offerings for you to experience this spring. You can learn more at fortgarryhotel.com or follow along on Instagram and Facebook.
