Winnipeg Wirdle will be your new word-game addiction -

Winnipeg Wirdle will be your new word-game addiction

Winnipeg Wirdle will be your new word-game addiction

Capitalizing on the Wordle phenomenon, TW launches Winnipeg Wirdle, a city-themed word guessing game

By: Only in the Peg // April 1, 2022

We’ll give you six guesses as to what craze Tourism Winnipeg is set to enter next.

No, it’s not radio. Nor space. Nor wines, vines, goods or fonts.

It’s (like) Wordle! But we’re calling it Wirdle (because we simply can’t afford to be notified by The Times) and we’re sitting on a wide array of five-letter words that are so sound for The Peg. (We’d also tried out Windle--because Winnipeg--but it didn't feel right.

Using the same Wordle format of unveiling a five-letter word using up to six guesses, this new Winnipeg-based version will be the spot online to apply all your city knowledge—from Forks, to River, Whyte, Moose, Vital, Nutty, and of course, Garry.

“Given the popularity of that word game we see everyone posting about on Twitter, and the need to stay on trend in the online sphere, we think this will be a great new branding exercise for our company,” said Tyler Walsh, Director of Marketing for Tourism Winnipeg while carefully trying to not say Wordle to avoid any possible lawsuits.

“Plus, it's a great way to keep Winnipeg on your mind-—and on your Twitter feed! Our shared score function includes a nifty skyline shot of the city that we're sure you'll love, even if it's just a 6/6 day.’”
