December at the Delta is a gift in itself - Delta's festive lobby (Tourism Winnipeg)

Delta's festive lobby (Tourism Winnipeg)

December at the Delta is a gift in itself

Downtown's biggest four-star hotel is a great choice this winter

By: Only in the Peg // December 9, 2021 // Accommodations

Downtown’s largest four-star hotel has all you are looking for this holiday season and winter.

From packages and festive spaces for your last minute holiday parties to a location that can’t be beat, Delta Hotels Winnipeg is a gift in itself during your stay.

Let’s talk location and deals

If you are coming to the city for a hockey game or concert at Canada Life Centre, this is where you need to be. The Delta is connected to the arena – and indeed most of downtown – via heated skywalks so you’ll never really need a jacket.

It’s surrounded by countless restaurants including Hargrave Street Market (more on that coming up), and is a short walk from major winter attractions like The Forks, the Canadian Museum for Human Rights and Winnipeg Art Gallery-Qaumajuq, which just opened this year to rave reviews from publications across the globe.

So, it’s right where you want to be to get the best out of downtown Winnipeg.

The good folks at the Delta of course know this, which is why they’ve come up with the Hargrave Street Market Package, which gets you a $50 gift card to the Market and two tickets to the Canadian Museum for Human Rights with your nights stay. (You can find that deal and more here under Offers and Packages).

The Market itself has food kiosks from the some of the city’s best chefs and restaurants, including Japanese cuisine from Saburo Kitchen, high end Italian by way of Gusto North, incredible burgers from Yard Burger and some of the city’s best brunch dishes courtesy of Miss Browns. For libations, Hargrave is also home to Rose Bar – a craft cocktail operation that stands right in the middle of the market, along with Lake of the Woods Brew Company, which has a tap room downstairs. On that bottom floor you'll also find  Mottola Grocery, and epicurean's dream brimming with killer salads and takeout items (that pastrami, unbelievable) along with local and international food stuffs.

In December, you could use that extra $50 to pre or post-game when the Manitoba Moose play on the 10th, 11th, 30th and 31st, or for Jets’ games on the 14th, 17th or 19th, 27th and 29th. That’s a lot of hockey!

Come January, both the Jets and Moose  have eight home games to choose from, while there’s some huge shows coming our way too. This includes Dierks Bentley on January 13, while February sees The Glorious Sons (Jan.10) and The Offspring with Simple Plane on the 14th. The Dodge Ram Motorsports Spectacular is also coming with three shows between the 12th and 13th.

Book your holiday gathering!

The Delta has 11 event rooms to choose from, while the onsite restaurant and bar – Blaze Restaurant and Lounge – also has a great private dining room to complement its menu of Canadiana-inspired cuisine.

The hotel catering is top notch (including great bar service) ensuring that whatever room you book comes with great culinary options, along fun options for décor.

All those amenities! (and a great gift idea for parents and grandparents)

The Delta has underground parking; 11 suites; 382 guest rooms – many with private balconies from where you can look out onto the city, along with heated bathroom floors and relaxing jacuzzi tubs; a gorgeous indoor pool and gym area and it's pet-friendly too.

Grandparents reading this: You know what parents are craving this holiday season? A little time away from the kids. Give the gift of a staycation where you can babysit or get yourself a stay and bring the little ones along. It’s a win-win for everything, particularly the kids who get to use that great pool before heading out to a hockey game.
