Goldeyes Baseball hits a home run with new Craft Beer Corner

By: Peg City Grub // July 18, 2018 // Beer

Beer and baseball go together like wine and Wednesdays, or better yet – Winnipeg Goldeyes and American Association Championships (two years in a row baby!).

Of course, this is something that the mighty fine Fish (i.e. The Winnipeg Goldeyes Organization) know so well.

That’s why this summer on tap at Shaw Park – along with some always-exciting baseball – you can find brews for only $7.50 from some of the city’s best breweries.

It’s called the Craft Beer Corner, and while it is technically located out in left field (within Shaw Park), we can assure you that there is nothing strange about this sudsy setup.

Featuring a rail overlooking the diamond (along with stunning views of the Canadian Museum for Human Rights), along with belly up tables and bar stools, the 1,400 sq. ft.Craft Beer Corner provides an ideal spot from which to watch the game, all while introducing yourself to Winnipeg’s most-excellent and burgeoning local brewery scene.

At all times in the Craft Beer Corner you can get beers from national players like Labatt, along with Winnipeg’s largest brewery – Fort Garry Brewing Company, while there’s also two dedicated taps that are rotating through some of Winnipeg’s best microbrews.

Please note: you don't have to order beer like this from the Craft Beer Corner (but you'd be a lot cooler if you did)

Having already hit home plate are One Great City (May 25 to June 10), Little Brown Jug (June 11 to 28), and Barn Hammer Brewing (which you’ll see featured in our video), while beers from Torque Brewery will be on tap July 24-29, and August 3-6, followed by Farmery Estate Brewery on August 7-8, 17-19 and 27-31.

On top of that, Shaw Park, which is surely one of the most beautiful stadiums in all of baseball (all 7,461 seats offer an impeccable view of the diamond, while prime tickets go for as low as $14), also has countless culinary options.

Within Shaw Park you can enjoy excellent Indian cuisine from Clay Oven – whose whole dining room overlooks the ball park; tasty noodle boxes and global street food by Bodegoes; pulled pork from Danny’s Whole Hog; wings slathered in countless sauces and all manner of out-there stadium fare from Little Bones Wings; sushi and Korean fried chicken from Mooshiro; sweets from Morden’s of Winnipeg; and a mighty fine selection of cocktails, coolers, spirits and more.

So be sure to add a ball game to your Winnipeg vacation this summer. We guarantee you’ll catch both some quality baseball and a pint (or two) that will have your tastebuds swinging for the fences.
