The much-anticipated Culinary Night at the Museum is back–and it's set to be even more spectacular. On October 9, indulge in an unforgettable evening at the Canadian Museum for Human Rights (CMHR), where food, fine wine and stunning architecture converge.
After a sold-out event this past June with chef Chinnie Ramos of WOW! Hospitality, we're eager to see what the fall edition has in store. Last time, locals and visitors alike were wowed by the pairing of delightful dishes with the museum's awe-inspiring spaces.
Reflecting on a sensory journey through the Museum
The evening began in Bonnie and John Buhler Hall with delectable starters like local bison carpaccio toast, beetroot fritters with horseradish yogurt, and scallop crudo with grapefruit. Following brief mingling, guests ascended the alabaster ramps—symbolizing the museum's theme of moving from darkness to light—arriving at the serene Stuart Clark Garden of Contemplation. Here, we enjoyed a rich celery root and lobster cappuccino paired with a refreshing spinach, apple and fennel salad.
The culinary journey continued on the fifth-floor terrace, where flickering candlelight, lush greenery and expansive views set the stage for a Barolo-braised beef rib with wild mushroom ravioli. Yet, the evening wasn’t over: In the Israel Asper Tower of Hope, Prosecco was poured alongside indulgent desserts including mini lemon and raspberry pavlovas, chocolate tarts and mango coconut verrines (which you can think of as dessert in a shot glass).
A culinary tour with WOW! Hospitality
This fall, the team from WOW! Hospitality and WOW! Catering—behind popular Winnipeg spots like 529 Wellington, Peasant Cookery, Bistro Boréal (located inside the CMHR), Katita Café (located inside WAG-Qaumajuq) and more—returns to create another unforgettable experience. This month, celebrity chef Luc Jean takes the helm with a fresh, four-course menu that is sure to leave guests craving more.
Here's what's in store:
- Level 1: Wild mushroom tarts with garlic confit, Manitoba bison tataki, and snow crab avocado toast (yes, please!).
- Level 2: A warming sweet potato, red curry, and coconut soup paired with a fresh arugula and roasted beet salad.
- Level 3: Roasted Black Angus striploin with truffled Yukon Gold mashed potatoes and stuffed Yorkshire pudding.
- Tower of Hope: Save room for dessert! Think mini chocolate pot de crème with candied kumquat and pistachio financier with whipped mascarpone.
Each dish is thoughtfully crafted using local ingredients, creating a culinary tour that celebrates Manitoba’s finest flavours.
