Delta Winnipeg's poolside experience will keep you satiated in the sun - Delta Hotel Blue Deck Pool (Photo by Jessica Losorata)

Delta Winnipeg's poolside experience will keep you satiated in the sun

By: Emily Palmer // June 29, 2022 // Beer, Cocktails

Poolside snacks, tan lines and craft cocktails are a few of many guarantees for guests who stay at  Delta Hotels by Marriot Winnipeg this summer.

The Delta’s Blue Deck Pool is the only exposed hotel rooftop pool in the city, with its blue glimmering water surrounded by a skirt of plush sun beds. Sitting stories above the busy downtown streets, the deck gets the perfect amount of sunlight and is the ideal family-friendly amenity for all Delta guests.

And get this, it’s all serviced by some crazy good dishes and drinks.

Sip and savour in the sun

Summer 2022 calls for all things new and fresh, which is what the Delta Blue Pool Bar & Terrace’s menu is all about. The menu is created by Sam Yang, the Delta’s Director of Operations, whose notable culinary experience includes the Waltham Abbey Mariott in Essex, U.K., the Mandarin Restaurant in Scotland, and his General Manager position at Nova Hotels in Yellowknife NWT.

Needless to say, Yang's taste is killer. The new menu features summer cocktails, wine and local beer, along with an exquisite lineup of light snacks and healthy greens. Sit poolside and sip on drinks like the True North Caesar made with Tito’s Vodka, Clamato, Worch, Frank's, a pickle, maple bacon, celery salted rim and a dehydrated lime. Or there's the Prohibition Iced Tea with four bar rails, triple sec, cinnamon syrup, coke syrup and a dehydrated lemon.

Its beer menu features many of our familiar favourites, including the Bluebeary and Lamp Lighter from Trans Canada Brewing Co., Kilter's Juicii and 1919 from our friends at Little Brown Jug. They also have alcohol-free drinks like the Hi Berry My Honey (a personal favourite) made with maple dark berry syrup, ginger beer, and a hint of mint!

The Terrace menu is all you’re looking for when you're deck-chair dining in the sun, curated with a summery selection of flavours perfect for snacking in between cannonballs.

There’s Pop Kart popsicles for smouldering summer days. Honey dill chicken wings and the spiced smashed avocado served with tortilla chips and salsa (the guac is the perfect blend of creamy avocado with bounces of lime and just the right amount of garlic). Its menu is also big on greens with salads galore, like the Chopped Greens, the Power Greens, a classic Caesar and the Buddha Bowl. I'm still thinking about the grilled chicken Caesar with the garlicky dressing drizzled over the crisp romaine. Chef's kiss!

Surrounding Spots

The Delta is nestled right in the heart of downtown Winnipeg. It is the city’s largest four-star hotel, and is connected to the RBC Convention Centre and Canada Life Centre through the downtown skywalk. It is close to some of our favourite restaurants in the city like The Merchant Kitchen, and is just steps away from Hargrave St. Market. If you’re in the mood to explore outdoors, the hotel is also minutes away from The Forks, being a pleasant stroll down Broadway.

Level up with the Delta experience

All 393 guest rooms are well-appointed with sleek furnishings, cloud-like beds, wall-mounted chrome-cast TVs, large work desks, and of course, an incredible view of Downtown Winnipeg (with many featuring outdoor balconies). The hotel is host to a 24-hour fitness facility, an in-house Urban Bean and the hotel’s own Blaze Restaurant & Lounge.

In Winnipeg, we don’t take summer for granted, and The Delta Winnipeg is the ultimate vacay hotspot for our short-lived hot summer months. Don’t miss out on making a splash at your next vacation—because the Delta Blue Pool Bar & Terrace is a menu that can't be passed up.
