15 different take-outs to take you through the rest of the year

By: Peg City Grub // December 14, 2020 // Farm to Table

‘Tis the season for staying inside. This year we’re scrapping the holiday traditions we once knew and coming up with new ways to support local while also celebrating the season.

Though we are always a fan of traditional take-out, these local businesses have stepped it up a notch to offer DIY kits, bundles and even board games to keep us busy at home.

Date night necessities

Vegan Nachos | The Roost on Corydon | 651 Corydon Ave
Celebrate the weekend with a vegan nacho kit complete with a jar of The Roost’s house-made cashew queso and made-in-Manitoba tortilla chips. If this snack package is your kind of thing, also consider ordering The Roost’s vegan holiday dinner or New Year’s Eve take-home kit.

Cocktail Creations | Amsterdam Tea Room | 103-211 Bannatyne Ave
Make Amsterdam Tea Room’s Smoked Teaser cocktail from the comfort of home! This kit comes with Smoked Teaser clamato, a jar of chef Aron’s spicy pickles and charcoal celery salt. If a Caesar isn’t your thing, try out one of the many cocktail syrups available in a set or individually.

Classy Charcuterie | Nonsuch Brewing Co. | 125 Pacific Ave
This micro-brewery boasts some of the best meat and cheese boards in the city. Try out its Shared Experience packages for Belgian-style beer, local cheese and cured Zinn farm meats that all pair perfectly with the focaccia and house-made mustard.

S’mores and Spas | Thermea by Nordik Spa-Nature | 775 Crescent Dr
Your favourite dishes from the spa are now available for take-out, including bundles for date night that offer s’mores kits and bottles of wine. Enjoy them by a backyard fire, or toast them in the oven while wearing your best bath robe.

Re-heat and Ready to Eat | Promenade Café and Wine | 130 Provencher Blvd
These dishes are pre-packaged and frozen for you to reheat and eat whenever you’re craving classic and comforting French fare. Mix and match your mains and sides and follow easy instructions to bring these dishes to life.

Curated Creations | Mottola Grocery | 242 Hargrave St
Create crafted meals at home with a number of gift boxes made by the experts at Mottola Grocery. From DIY Pasta Sunday packages to perfect pastries in the Brunch Box, these sets are great for filling up your pantry or purchasing for a friend.

Sips and Snacks | LOCAL Public Eatery | 274 Garry St
The LOCAL Holiday Gift Guide offers nine different gift box options to top off the ultimate stay-at-home date night. Enjoy bourbon and pies, pilsners and popcorn, or Baileys and bite-sized doughnuts, perfect for nights where you binge-watch all four seasons of The Crown.

Food for family fun

DIY Pizza Party | Diana’s Cucina & Lounge | 730 St Anne's Road
Become your own gourmet pizza chef by tossing artisanal dough, spreading on the made-from-scratch marinara, and any toppings you’d like with these pizza kits.

Gingerbread Crafts | VG Restaurant | 2 Lombard Place
Decorate 10 house-made gingerbread cookies with icing, candy and sprinkles. This family activity is great for creating custom cookies to leave out for Santa. Once you’ve finished decorating post a picture of your creations for a chance to win a surprise from Fairmont Winnipeg.

DIY Sushi Sweets | Sweet C Bakery | 1171 Kildare Ave E
Try out Sweet C’s DIY Candy Sushi Kit and make your own large sushi platter, complete with gummy fish. In addition to having everything you need to create these sugary rolls, these kits also come with chopsticks and dipping sauces for the full sushi experience.

Party in a Box | Lasertopia | 1140 Waverley St
Turn any night into family game night with Lasertopia’s Party in a Box, including two pizzas, cupcakes, popcorn, a giant Jenga set, balloons, prizes and more!

Decorate that Deliciousness | Eiffel Tower Pastry Shop | 1193 Pembina Hwy
Cookie kits are made for all occasions at the family-owned Eiffel Tower. Right now, you can order Chanukah Cookie Decorating Kits, Gingerbread House Kits and several thematic cookie decorating kits - all available in classic or vegan.

For the big holiday dinner

This is the year for breaking traditions. Skip the stress of preparing a huge meal for your family and sit back, relax and let some of Winnipeg’s best chefs cater your holiday dinner for you.  Below you’ll find a list of restaurants taking orders for dishes delivered on December 24 or 25.

Little Goat | 2615 Portage Ave
The “Christmas Ready-to-Cook” menu is full of dishes you can pick-up in-store and cook in the oven at home, while you follow along with the supplied cooking instructions. Finish off dinner with the eggnog crème anglaise or add a tray of dainties to snack on all eve.

SMITH Restaurant | 75 Forks Market Rd
Enjoy a chef-curated festive dinner package, or even a single turkey dinner portion, accompanied by seasonal fresh vegetables, baked dinner rolls, a choice of dessert and more. Complete the experience by adding on a bottle of wine from Jones Wine Merchants and your holiday dinner is completely taken care of this year.

The Oxbow | 557 Osborne St
This prepare-at-home holiday dinner is made for two and includes five locally themed dishes and simple cooking instructions. Add on a mulled wine kit, tonic kit, or Underberg to sip while you savour these plates.

St. Norbert Farmers’ Market | 3514 Pembina Hwy
Choose from a variety of farm-fresh holiday dinner boxes, including beef, chicken, gluten-free or no-meat options. These boxes cover all aspects of the meal, including dinner rolls, desserts, ciders, teas and more. Feel good this holiday supporting small Manitoban businesses and farmers.

Feast Café Bistro | 587 Ellice Ave
Help provide a meal kit to someone in need and support the Indigenous culinary community. Indigenous Feast Boxes help keep chefs and support staff working, while also creating meal kits for Indigenous families in need. Please consider donating this season to help Feast help others.

You can also shop Feast’s Grab N’ Go Market for delicious Indigenous comfort food, family-style dinners and soups.
