Don’t panic, be sensible about your hand-washing and spacing, and eat local while we all get through this.
Local businesses are already bearing the brunt, so let’s all do our part in The Peg and keep socially responsible while getting through this self-isolation with takeout (please practice safe distances and supreme sanitation when out in public) and delivery.
Here’s just a few ways our culinary scene is currently coping with things (And please note: we will be updating this article regularly to keep it current, while you can also find a full listing of restaurants that are offering takeout and delivery here along with an additional article on places that have reopened since the end of last week here).
Break bread
Bread is everything, and most of the city’s top bakeries are still at it. Going above and beyond right now is Eadha – which just switched exclusively to deliveries, having partnered with Sunshine House to provide free delivery for high- risk members of the community these past few days along with gathering donations so customers can support one another.
Hildegarde’s is currently running business-as-usual counter service, with a huge selection we personally just took advantage of, including brick-oven -baked breads, spelt pizza shells, and ridiculously good local ham sandwiches on fluffy kamut buns (this bun was sensational, I’m telling you,-- see the lede image). You can also find them on DoorDash and Deliver-Eats.
Tall Grass has now also shut the Wolseley/Westminster location, but that said you can still get their breads and products at grocery stores across the city. Next week (March 23 onward), they will offer, in their own words, "old-fashioned home delivery for baked goods... just like milk used to be," while they are currently working on a pick-up system at Westminster.
La Belle Baguette is back with both the St. Boniface and Ness locations running from Tuesday to Saturday. Sleepy Owl just closed but is hoping to reopen on April 8. Frenchway is continuing pickup service with pre-orders appreciated.
Drinks to your door
Being driven to drink? Us too! Just kidding, it’s only day three. But if we were wanting to replenish the wine stock, Banville and Jones is delivering and continuing its “Text A Sommelier” service too. On top of that, Ellement Wine + Spirits in The Forks is doing (free!) delivery, while De Luca’s Fine Wines, Calabria Wine Market, and GJ Andrews deliver too.
Nonsuch Brewery has shut down the tap room, but they are now doing delivery, including chef Tyrone's incredible charcuterie. On top of that, they just announced that legendary burger is available right now for pickup only. Almost every brewery/taproom in the city is currently still offering pickup service along with delivery, so on that note, here's our brewery listings.
Cornelia Bean is doing pickup curb side service via phone and email orders, along with deliveries within Winnipeg for the foreseeable future. This includes both all your coffee and tea needs, and their gift ware too.
Restaurant meals to your door or available for no-contact pickup
Little Goat is now offering family suppers at $20 per person, with kids between five-12 for $10, and kids under five for free. They are doing this with a $5 delivery charge in St. James, the West End and Wolseley.
Gusto North is also offering three-course family dinners (salad, entree, dessert and bread) to your doorstep, with the option of kids meals too.
Another great option for families (and individuals) is Supper Central in Kenaston Commons. This custom catering business makes ready made meals along with pre-portioned meals you cook yourself (but no need to do any chopping, measuring, etc., that part is all done for you). Using their online shop they will deliver to your door for free on all orders over $50.
Local Public Eatery on Gary St. is now offering 20 per cent off curb side pickup orders (you stay in your car and Sean and the crew will run it out to you). They are also using DoorDash for delivery at a 10 per cent discount.
The above mentioned GJ Andrews and De Luca’s also deal in more than just wine. Both offer a selection of quality grab- and- go meals, while GJ Andrews does full delivery service too for groceries.
Everything is absolutely delicious from Black Market Provisions and right now they’ve made the move to take all orders online for pickup or delivery, including local pantry items, eggs from Nature’s Farm, breads from Eadha and Hildegard’s, and all their incredible housemade foods, like soups and the near- legendary Thai Phoon coconut ice cream. Fill your order today, and those items will be ready for pickup or delivery tomorrow – it’s as easy as that.
Winnipeg’s busiest pizza joint, Santa Ana Pizzeria, is continuing with takeout and even take- and- bake options. Most pizza joints are also offering non-contact delivery including Pizzeria Gusto which now has delivery that includes a free dessert on Friday and Saturday nights (fyi: Their flourless chocolate cake is just beautiful).
Restaurants that now deliver
Just announced (Thursday, March 19), Hargrave St. Market vendors Yard Burger, The Good Fight Taco and Gusto North are now all offering deliver. Here's how that all works.
Magic Bird is just in the midst of offering delivery via Skip, but until then they have scaled down to pickup service from 5 p.m. to 10 p.m., Tuesday to Sunday. Other easy Skip options include almost every noodle joint in the West End.
Yujiro is currently offering delivery, including ramen at lunch, which was once highly forbidden by them (so this is perhaps one great thing that has come out from all this), but they've just had a water main break in their basement, so they will be closed from now (Sunday, March 22) until further notice. Also in River Heights, Suofen Noodles is doing plenty of delivery service too.
For sweets, both Chocolatier Constance Popp and Decadence are currently offering free delivery over $50 and curbside pickup; Sweet Impressions has online ordering for deliveries and pickup (and we should mention, all their goodies are nut-free making it an easy choice for those with allergies); and the locally owned Cinnaholic is using both Skip and DoorDash (within a 10 km radius) while offering free citywide delivery for purchases over $25 if you call the store at 204.414.2111.
Have a hankering for amazing crêpes? Ker Breizh Creperie is now also delivering for free. You can get platters of 10 or 15 plain crêpes, along with a host of sweet of savoury individual crêpes too. Their jars of award-wining salted caramel are also available and I tell you, you can put that glorious stuff on anything.

Let this just be a sampling of what’s out there. We’ll be regularly using the Tourism Winnipeg IG account to feature what local businesses are still offering so we can continue to support one another through this.
As well, if you are looking for a good news story, check out what chef Ben Kramer and local restaurants have been doing to ensure that no food goes to waste while donating to shelters, food banks, and healthcare workers. The Instagram stories will warm your heart.
And more positive news has just come in (Thursday, March 19) from Patent 5 Distillery, which has just started to use its facility to make hand sanitizer for local organizations that are helping the vulnerable.
And for further listings, chef Kelly Cattani has started the FOOD Connect Winnipeg - Food Delivery Resource Group on Facebook, where restaurants can post their own take out and delivery services. You can find that here.
