Lord of the Pies
Aside from having a name that is pure butter — much like the base of their crusts (baazing!) — Lord of the Pies bakes a most excellent selection of savoury, mainly meat pies (and sausage rolls) which you’d be more likely to find in other parts of the Commonwealth.
In fact, chef/baker/owner Dustin Watson first got into pies while living in Australia (as all of us pie and sausage roll aficionados do), while he ate many meat pies in his youth courtesy of his Scottish grandpa. Watson first started making a name for his pies in 2017, selling at local farmers’ markets and doing pop-up sort of events at local breweries.
As of June 2, 2019 (making this the second-newest truck on the scene), the Lord of the Pies food truck has been hitting the streets of Winnipeg, mainly doing stints at Sookram’s Brewing Co., Stone Angel Brewing Co., Misericordia Health Centre, and the West End Cultural Centre, serving up flavours like butter chicken, Scottish meat, and sweet potato vegetable.
