Innovation of the Year
Winnipeg Tourism Innovation of the Year Award of Distinction
Presented to an individual, organization, business or marketing consortium in recognition of a new tourism product/service/process or approach that increases tourism to Winnipeg.
Alleyways Market in the Exchange
Alleyways Market in the Exchange brought hundreds of visitors into the area over the summer, allowing them to explore downtown Winnipeg in a safe, engaging and vibrant way. Part farmers market, part Lucky Girl Pop Up Shop and part design exhibition, all three markets were held in back alleys, activating an otherwise unused space into a community hub. It also enhanced the “shop local” movement and promoted Exchange District businesses.
Assiniboine Park Conservancy - Dinosaurs Alive!®
Assiniboine Park Conservancy introduced Dinosaurs Alive!® in May 2016—consisting of 15 life-sized animatronic dinosaurs—which enhanced the zoo’s status as a must-see attraction for locals and tourists alike from outside the city, while encouraging repeat visits from members. Dinosaurs Alive!® provided an entirely new experience and a unique opportunity to see life-sized dinosaurs move and roar, demonstrating how they might have looked in a natural environment many years ago. Increased attendance and membership sales confirmed the exhibit’s success.
