POP-UP PARKS – DOWNTOWN WINNIPEG BIZ
From June to October 2018, Winnipeg’s downtown was lit up two colourful and vibrant pop-up parks installed by the Downtown Winnipeg BIZ. Built as sidewalk extensions in existing parkinglanes, these mini-parks encouraged pedestrians to head outside, interact with friends and co-workers, and enjoy Winnipeg’s balmy seasonal days. Live entertainment was programmed almost daily, while a giant chess set and ping-pong table brought out some friendly competition between the people living and working downtown.
EXCHANGE DISTRICT BIZ ACTIVATIONS - AWARD WINNER
In 2018, the Exchange District BIZ launched three innovative programs to showcase some of the historic area’s best offerings to increase visitation. In a single year, the BIZ launched a free concert movie series at the Cube with live opening acts, managed the second annual Hot Beverage Week featuring unique and delicious concoctions from local restaurants, and presented an interactive guided tour called Rebels, Riots, and Revolutionaries which brought a new and engaging historical perspective to the Exchange District.
WINNIPEG TATTOO SHOW
With its inaugural show at the RBC Convention Centre Winnipeg, the Winnipeg Tattoo Show created a space organized for artists by artists. As the first-ever tattoo show held in the city, the event included live tattooing and piercing, and welcomed artists from as far away as Peru, Australia, and India. Building on the success of this innovative event, organizers worked with City and Provincial health departments to find a business plan that will allow for future tattoo shows in Winnipeg.
