Activate Games - AWARD WINNER
After two years of brainstorming, the creative minds behind Winnipeg’s The Real Escape created a completely new form of entertainment called “active gaming.” Activate offers players a high-tech experience that test a team’s physical and mental agility across a variety of interactive challenges. After a year in operation, Activate has had more than 80,000 unique visitors, most of whom have returned multiple times. Activate draws customers from outside the city, province and country thanks to its one-of-a-kind business not found anywhere else in the world.
Bon Appétit Saint-Boniface Culinary Walking Tours
In summer 2018, Tourisme Riel launched bi-weekly walking history and culinary tours of St. Boniface that quickly sold out. To meet demand, the tour program expanded to become a weekly summer offering in 2019, with a progressive meal at four local restaurants and historical interpretations of Winnipeg’s vibrant French Quarter. These tours provided visitors another reason to explore the area and attracted guests from outside the province to join.
The Common Patio
THE FORKS NORTH PORTAGE PARTNERSHIP
The barrier-free, licensed Common patio is The Forks Market’s outdoor iteration of its successful interior craft beer and wine kiosk. Attention to detail in its design helped shape its success, including comfortable furnishings, 100-seat harvest table, deck chairs, shaded dining, picnic-style family gathering areas and fire pits, a popular spot for winter gatherings. This new concept has resulted in an increase in visitors by approximately 30 per cent and has enlivened The Forks experience through all seasons.
