It’s hard not be drawn to Robert Archambeau’s ceramic works. In their varied scale, form, and surface treatment, they offer a remarkable palette of colours, textures, and glazes. Archambeau moved to Winnipeg in 1968. The professor emeritus at the University of Manitoba School of Art became a leading figure in Canadian ceramic art, winning the Governor General’s Award in Visual and Media Arts in 2003. His wood-fired stoneware bowls, vases, teapots, and other vessels exhibit a quiet, masterful command of form and technique, with textures and glazes influenced by Asian ceramics and by the rural Manitoba landscape.
