Métis artist Julie Nagam offers hope in an era of global environmental crisis by pointing to Indigenous knowledge of the land with her multi-media art installation.
Nagam invokes the magical elements of indigenous plants to remind us of their healing qualities. Her paintings are brought to life via digital technologies as moving image projections. Fireweed sprouts from the earth and tobacco root sways in the wind.
Nagam’s “living ecosystem” draws the natural world indoors during our coldest months and considers the properties and lifelines that plant life offers the human world.

Opening reception: Thursday, January 10, 4:00 – 6:00 pm at Gallery 1C03Remarks at 4:30 pm by Dr. Annette Trimbee, President of the University of Winnipeg, and Dr. Niigaan Sinclair. Launch of illustrated exhibit publication featuring essay by Dr. Niigaan Sinclair.
