Peer Gynt is the quintessential comic hero, living life with gusto and spinning tall tales, and going through a series of outrageous adventures. Somehow, bounces back, and skips merrily on his way, no matter how bad the odds or perilous the circumstances.  But is that enough?  While Peer is the ultimate bad boy, an irresponsible rogue who always manages to escape consequences, Ibsen's poet hero is nonetheless on a quest in search of the Self, just one step ahead of the Button Moulder who intends to melt down his soul.

Henrik Ibsen was a Norwegian playwright who, most famously wrote, A Doll’s House. The Black Hole company is using a new translation and version of the play by Errol Durbach, Professor Emeritus at the University of BC, whose approach to the play is bold, sprightly, and just a bit naughty.

Chris Johnson taught Theatre at the University of Manitoba for 35 years, was Co-ordinator of the Theatre Program for 25 years, and was the Artistic Director of the Black Hole Theatre Company.  He has directed or co-directed 36 productions for the University.
