Dinner and a movie is so passé.
Today's modern urbanites like their dinner with a side of art. That's the thinking behind Olympus Flavours of Art, an evening for food and art lovers that runs May 14.
WAG's signature dinner-and-tour program starts with a thematic three-course, fixed-menu dinner followed by a tour of the exhibit. Check out all the details here.
Dinner is served inside TABLE, WAG's top-floor restaurant. TABLE, formerly Storm Bistro, has recently undergone a menu upgrade and rebranding. Chef Mark Andrew and his team are behind the changes at TABLE and are the culinary team behind the flavours portion of Flavours of Art. Take a look at the new restaurant menu here.
The three courses are inspired by the flavours of the Mediterranean, in honour of WAG's new show Olympus: The Greco-Roman Collections of Berlin, which runs April 26 to April 17, 2016.
Olympus is the first major exhibition of classical antiquities in Winnipeg in more than 50 years. The exhibition of Greek and Roman art dates back from the 5th century to the 2nd century AD. Marble statues and reliefs, terracotta vases, jewelry and bronze statuettes are some of the 160-plus pieces in the exhibit. The pieces are from three Berlin-based museums: the Berlin State Museum, Altes Museum and Pergamonmuseum.
Olympus Flavours of Art will run periodically throughout the duration of the exhibition. More dates will be announced soon. Dinner is served at 6 p.m., followed by an exhibition tour at 7:30 p.m. The first Olympus, Flavours of Art runs Thursday May 14. WAG's director and CEO Stephen Borys will lead the tour after dinner.
Tickets cost $80 for WAG members and $85 for non-members. For tickets click here.
WAG's Flavours of Art series have been hugely popular. The museum hosted several Dine with Dali dinners during the fall and into the new year. Olympus Flavours of Art is expected to be just as popular.
