Winnipeg is in the midst of a coffee Renaissance. In the past few years, a half dozen, high-concept coffee bars have opened shop in and around the city's core.

The shops are helmed by 20 and 30-something owners who have taken their love of design, art and architecture and merged it with coffee culture. More than just a spot to grab a cup of joe, Winnipeg's third wave coffee houses have become communities in their own right.

Coffee—and its careful curation and preparation—is still the draw but so are the choir nights, art show openings, coffee classes, live music and open houses/ town halls moderated by the city's dynamic creative class.

The shops hum with energy and not just from the jolts of caffeine. Coffee-loving patrons come for a cup but stay for the vibrant scene. Check them out and see for yourself how ideas are sparked.
