Launched in July 2013, this downtown farmers' market has become an instant hit. Downtown employees, Winnipeggers and visitors flock to this weekly market to stock up on fresh fruit and vegetables straight from the fields. The centrally located market has been a boon to downtown, bringing more folks to the centre of the city. In addition to fresh produce, look for locally made salsas, original art and baked treats like pies, cookies and slices. Freshly caught Rainbow Trout has also made appearances.

Wolseley Farmers' Market
980 Palmerston Ave. at Ruby St. in Winnipeg
Tuesdays and Thursdays until October 15, 4 to 7:30 p.m.
Wolseley is one of Winnipeg's oldest neighbourhoods and lovingly called the city's 'granola belt.' It's a rootsy neighbourhood populated by families with young kids. Social consciousness and environmentalism run deep here so it makes sense the neighbourhood would introduce its own farmers market. Since opening in summer 2012, the wee but wonderful market has been a big hit with locals and Winnipeggers farther afield. Crop share buyers come to the market every week to pick up their vegetable supply. Everyone else can fill their bags with fresh produce (onions, carrots, potatoes, leafy vegetables, beans et al) at several other produce stands. Freshly baked bread, honey and cinnamon buns from Jonnie's are also regulars. What this market lacks in volume makes up for in quality and charm. At 25-years-old, this south Winnipeg farmers' market (technically south of the city limits) is one of the busiest markets in the province. Farmers from across Southern Manitoba bring their wares every week to feed the masses that amass. Think of a prairie-grown vegetable or fruit and you'll likely find it here. This market bustles with business every Saturday. Insider's Tip: Go early. Buskers, music and other outdoor performances liven up the already lively scene. Toys, clothes, photographs, paintings and other original art is also for sale.Slow-roasted BBQ, freshly-squeezed lemonade and kettle corn are also on hand to feed the crowds.

Jardins St-Léon Gardens

While technically not a farmers' market, this St. Boniface/ St. Vital area grocery market is an absolute treasure trove of uber-fresh produce, bread, cheese and locally made food-stuffs. The popular market and greenhouse opens every summer selling loads of bedding plants and greenery. The outdoor market is housed in a three-season building with a roof and tent walls. Pick up harvest fresh fruits like peaches, plums, apples and grapes. Make dinner spectacular with corn, snap peas, beans and leaf veggies. Also on hand: crusty baguettes from area-bakery Le Croissant. Staff are fantastic ambassadors for the local food scene and always at hand to help and answer questions.
