Stella's on Sherbrook: Patio Perfect

Stella's Bakery and Café patio on Sherbrook
Stella's patio at their Sherbrook location captures the quiet serenity of a English garden just steps away from the buzz of traffic.

Address: 116 Sherbrook Street
Phone Number: 204-477-5556
Neighbourhood: West Broadway

Stella's Café and Bakery is a favourite spot among Winnipeggers. Locals love the homestyle breakfasts and hearty lunches that rise high above typical diner fare.

This locally owned mini-empire boasts seven locations, each with a distinct design but sharing a core menu of eggs, sandwiches, salads and sweets. (The veggie burger and smoked salmon eggs Benedict are both outstanding.)

The Sherbrook location—and its fantastic duo of summer patios—draws big crowds. Between Stella's Cafe and its Bakery next door lives a quaint and secluded patio loaded with greenery and bordered by a big black metal gate. English gardens come to mind as you enter. Graffiti art on the opposite wall quickly shouts 'urban life.' Despite the 'free art,' this 'garden' patio is an escape from the buzz--a surprising feat considering Sherbrook Street traffic is less than 10 feet away.

For those who embrace the buzz, sidewalk tables take diners into the thick of things. Cars, dog walkers and pedestrians pass by as customers nosh on big plates and take in the city scene.

Diners get the best of both worlds on Stella's patio at Sherbrook: urban life or country escape.

Pick you favourite and then dig into a marvelous meal.

Insider's tip: The Sherbrook Street location is one of the most family friendly spots in the city. It's bustling and boisterous. Children are very welcome. You'll spot many moms with their broods sharing lunch with their peers. A big plus: restaurant noise drowns out any out-spoken toddlers or infants.
