Sandwiches sometimes get short shrift. Two pieces of bread, yada, yada, yada.

I say, it's time to celebrate the sandwich. So today, here's a look at one of my favourite sandwiches in Winnipeg.

Everytime I ate at The Fyxx on Albert Street in the city's Exchange District, I always ordered Tandoori's Box. When the location (and others around the city) closed in 2012, my heart sunk. (Lots of jobs lost, most importantly. And a very, very, very distant last place—the loss of my beloved lunch.)

One location of The Fyxx remains open today. So the Broadway location is my new stop to get my tandoori fix.

Tandoori's Box isn't a culinary masterpiece that will dazzle foodies with its complex layering of flavours and textures. It's a sandwich that tastes great.

Sliced chicken breast is sandwiched between two slices of corn bread slathered in a mild Tandoori aioli (aka mayonnaise) and slightly spiced chutney with little chunks of indeterminate fruits.

Paired with a caesar salad on the side and this is one of my favourite lunches. It's simple, it's tasty and it's not burgers and fries.

The Broadway location is a lit with sunlight streaming in through two walls of windows. Order at the counter from one of the friendly staff (a youngish crew of university-aged folks). Get them to make you a latté too.

And then take a seat on the patio and watch Winnipeg's downtown lunch scene come alive.
