There's many good reasons Rudy's Eat & Drink has become a hot spot for Winnipeg's business lunch crowd.

The food is fast and memorable. It's even. And it's served inside a slick and quirkily sophisticated dining room that screams '50s steakhouse with a twist of circa 2013 design chic.

It's also a great place to see and be seen.

But that's just inside the dining room. Come summer, Rudy's goes outdoors. The adjacent 140-seat patio faces Graham Avenue and has also become a popular spot for the after work cocktail crowd. Set back on the wide sidewalk, Rudy's patio has a leg up on many other downtown patios. It manages to deliver that outdoor urban experience without the nuisance of vehicles whizzing by mere feet away. Like the dining room, Rudy's designers have delivered a slick, urban space on the street. Long comfy couches and low coffee-type tables and high-top tables populate the patio. Birch tree trunks lit with white lights add romantic ambiance at night. It's the perfect spot to cozy up to a nightcap and a sweet dessert as the night closes in. And that's exactly what was called for on a recent visit downtown after dark.

We were the guinea pigs charged with tasting one of Rudy's new desserts. A thick slab of Nutella, chocolate hazelnut cheesecake was the challenge. This beautifully executed and playful plate makes our list for one of the city's best sweet treats. (Baked Expectations' Cherry Cheesecake also makes the list as does Mise's flourless chocolate torte.)
