The Bread Lady, aka Natalie Dueck and her husband Jason, uses certified organic grains and natural, locally grown ingredients for her nutrient-rich breads, cookies, focaccia and buns. Their booth is a popular destination at the St. Norbert Market.

A trip to St. Norbert Farmers' Market is a food-lovers adventure. You may go with a list of farm-fresh produce in mind but you're guaranteed to end up with much more in your tote bag.

Case in point: We went hoping for corn (way too early in the growing season) and ended up with fresh dill, cilantro, an enormous ring of beef sausage and a big bag of kettle-corn popcorn.

At St. Norbert Farmers' Market you'll find farm-fresh, organic goodness alongside guilty pleasures. The market is home to dozens of vendors selling freshly harvested herbs and vegetables alongside kiosks offering jewelry, all-natural pastas, handmade soaps, pickled veggies, organic-flour breads and pastries. Free-range chickens, Manitoba-raised beef and elk, sausages and cured and smoked meats, perogies and homemade pies are also for sale.

It's a great place for families ( dogs are welcome too) and is a must-see for visitors to Winnipeg.

St. Norbert Farmers' Market has been in business 24 years and has grown from a small jumble of vendors to a polished operation that still retains its folksy charm. The farmers and producers are typically on site and love to talk about their food.

Insiders tip: Go early to get the best selection of fresh vegetables and herbs. Farmers restock their supplies throughout the day but will sell out.

The market's handy harvest schedule found here will help plan your visit.

If you get hungry on site, saddle up to one of several restaurant kiosks. You'll find grilled smokies, fresh-squeezed lemon and limeade, cookies, slices, locally roasted coffee and the aforementioned kettle corn by Poppy Topp's. The kettle corn—salty and sweet popcorn—is made onsite in a gigantic, smoking hot, 350˚F pot.

Danny's Whole Hog BBQ is also crowd favourite. Picture handfuls of juicy dripping meat crammed into a whole-wheat or white bun. Drench your pulled pork sandwich in Danny's special tangy BBQ pork sauce. (They also make sweet potato and regular fries.)

The market is open Wednesdays from noon until 6 p.m. until September 26, 2012. The market is open Saturdays from 8 a.m. until 3 p.m. until October 27, 2012.
