If you thought finding a table at Petit Socco was already tough, just you wait.
The tiny, 10-seat (plus an additional eight on the patio) restaurant in Crescentwood was just awarded fifth on the annual Air Canada Canada’s Best New Restaurants list.
Owned and operated by partners Courtney Molaro (who oversees the front-of-house) and chef Adam Donnelly, Petit Socco offers a new four-course set menu every week from Wednesday to Saturday (with two seatings; you can reserve online) that we’ve loved since it opened in August 2022.
Chef Donnelly also won Dish of the Year for his pork belly and nectarine panzanella, which had head judge Amy Rosen stating she’ll “remember… for another decade."
Rosen, the Toronto-based food writer and culinary entrepreneur was tasked with dining at all 30 of the restaurants that made the long list –– which also included Winnipeg’s Bar Accanto –– that was composed by a panel of advisors from across Canada.
The winners were announced last night at a gala in Toronto, with Toronto restaurant Kappo Sato taking top billing.
This is the highest placement for a Winnipeg restaurant on the list, which has been released for the past two decades. The last time a local restaurant was in the top ten was Enoteca at No. 9 in 2015.
