If your current seasonal ensemble involves Ugg ankle boots and a cardigan so voluminous you could hide several delicate squashes up the sleeve–then gourd-geous, this guide is for you.
These pumpkin crop creations will only be around for a little while longer, so now's the time for foamy lattes, velvety ice creams and brisk brews that highlight the greatness of gourds, ginger, allspice, cloves, nutmeg and cinnamon.
Here's just a few that are ripe for harvest.
PSL PSA:
Chill Winston! Pumpkin can be refreshing, as Harrison’s Coffee Co. well knows. This season you can experience those warm spices in the form of a cool Italian soda at The Forks location.
For a PSL made with real pumpkin check out Pauline Bistro's naturally orange-tinted creation, topped with thick, house-made cinnamon whip. Available for pick-up, or pair it with eggs benny for brunch.
Frenchway Café’s PSL is even more of an aesthetic than the colours of the leaves surrounding this Corydon Avenue café. Foamy and frothy, this PSL is so pretty you’ll have to post about it.
Hot or cold, Colosimo Coffee Roasters serves one of our favourite PSLs in the Peg. Heavy on the coffee (don't you hate it when your latte just tastes like warm dairy?), this latte gets extra sweetness from the creamy whip and extra spice from the cinnamon dashed over the top.
Cafe Postal’s Latté aux Épices is made in-house by toasting a medley of seasonal spices before simmering them for hours into a warm and comforting syrup which is then added to espresso and milk for the perfect PSL (without the pumpkin).
Pumpkin everywhere
Good Neighbour Brewing Co. has a beer to get you in the fall spirit. The Pumpkin Pie Milkshake Hazy Pale actually tastes like Pumpkin Pie and is brewed with fresh pumpkin, ground nutmeg and cinnamon and topped with milk, sugar and vanilla.
Even your ‘booch can be a little bit basic this fall–bring your growlers because Wolseley Kombucha is serving pumpkin spice kombucha on tap this month. Rumour has it (or we could just be making this up) that SCOBYs are big on speckled swan gourds, but really, who isn't?
Milksmith’s ice cream creations truly know no bounds. The limited-edition giant Pumpkin Pie Milkshake comes with a full slice of pumpkin pie on top.
In our opinion, autumn is still ice cream season. Fête Ice Cream & Coffee has all we need with four fall flavours–Maple Walnut, Pumpkin Spice, Tiger Tiger (with black licorice and blood orange ice cream!) and Espresso Flake. Bonus: they are all gluten-free, just like we'll be when no booze November rolls around (that’s still on trend too, right?).
For more ice cream, Sargent Sundae's legendary pumpkin ice cream is always a classic choice, while Dug & Betty's is always producing countless seasonal flavours that you'll fall for. This week, it's the pumpkin dilly–a chocolate dipped pumpkin ice cream bar–that joins a roster that already includes pumpkin spice woofie pies, all made with their pumpkin soft serve ice cream.
Like most bakeries in town, La Belle Baguette has an assortment of pumpkin treats on now, particularly when it comes to pastries. Along with its flagship shop in Saint-Boniface, you can also find the pastry counters stacked at Empty Cup Collective with goodies from La Belle that you can pair with Empty Cup's seasonal lattes like butterscotch, banana bread, s'more and yes, pumpkin spice. With three locations in Winnipeg, along with a new one at The Village at Pineridge Hollow, there's plenty of opportunity to harvest multiple pairings.
