Ice cream cones and doggie bones

Winnipeg's ice cream spots offer treats for all

By: Maddy Reico // June 1, 2021 // Ice Cream

Though it’s a little early to call it the dog days of summer, there’s no doubt we could all use a little extra treat this time of year. Plus, our four-legged best friends are part of our household bubbles after all!

Tails will be wagging when you visit these dog-friendly Winnipeg ice cream spots:

Neon Cone | 1 Forks Market Rd.

Treat the good boys to a “doggie dollop” on your next visit to this must-try handmade ice cream spot at The Forks. Neon Cone specializes in fresh, local and innovative ingredients (for the hoomans, of course) in a wide variety of artisanal hard ice creams. If soft serve is more your style, try one of the 12 gourmet belgian chocolate flavours dips on the cone. Plus, dairy-free options mean there really is a treat for everyone here.

Dug and Betty’s | 309 Des Meurons St

Considering two incredibly cute dachshunds are the namesakes of this great ice cream spot on Des Meurons St., your dog will definitely be drooling over this one. Get a cone of the house-made ice cream for you, and a bone-topped cone for your dog too.

Sub Zero Ice Cream | 298 Jamison Ave.

This sweet shop boasts Manitoba’s largest ice cream menu, which includes endless sundaes, dreamy parfaits, flavourful flurries and of course something for the canines. The handmade K9 Cones include vanilla soft serve in a miniature cone topped with a biscuit.

Milksmith | 651 Corydon Ave.

Winnipeg’s most insta-worthy ice cream spot doesn’t forget about the dogs. Owners can enjoy colourful ice cream tacos, thai-styles rolled creations and some of the most coveted local collabs (we’re still kicking ourselves for missing that Jeanne’s cake pint). While the pups can enjoy a complimentary pup cup (sprinkles included) which is also great for the ‘gram.

Sweet Tops Ice Cream | 949 Henderson Hwy.

Locally owned and operated, Sweet Tops is a seasonal ice cream spot that cools the whole family. Dogs can enjoy a dish of the famous soft serve, while the kids can pick from over 32 different flavours  - that’s a lot of options!

Fête Ice Cream & Coffee | 300 Assiniboine Ave.

Fete’s downtown ice cream and coffee shop is the perfect place for a pandemic pick me up. Located directly beside Bonnycastle dog park, this all women-owned shop loves its pupstomers. After a busy play at the park, treat your pal to a vanilla pupcone, complete with a cookie on top. For the owners, there are some tasty made-from-scratch gluten-free and dairy-free options, while the summer seasonal Schmoo is a classic we can’t resist.
