Celebrity chef Mandel Hitzer (find him on Food Networks’ Wall of Chefs, along with cameos on Top Chef Canada) continues to dazzle local diners, visiting celebrities, and national critics alike at his fun, whimsical and eclectic tasting menu restaurant in the Exchange District. It’s appeared on the Canada’s 100 Best Restaurant listing several times since opening in 2012 and is currently #39 –– the highest-ever achievement from a local restaurant. If you don’t want to do the four-course tasting menu for $90, book a spot at the bar for a la carte offerings like the famous baby potatoes or salt and pepper squid. Hitzer and architect collaborator Joe Kalturnyk also stage RAW:almond every winter, building a temporary restaurant on the frozen Red River that serves tasting menus from some of North America’s best chefs who fly in for the event.
