West Broadway

The face of West Broadway has changed significantly since its first homes were built in the 1800s. Today, this neighbourhood—nestled between downtown and Wolesely—is undergoing a new cycle of life. A variety of unique and independently owned restaurants and shops call West Broadway home. Here, visitors can shop for eco-friendly threads, people-watch on street-side patios and get a new look at one of the city’s finest salons. There is a strong movement towards urban gardening, with many community gardens and compost sites.

Location: The approximate boundaries are Sherbrook St between the Assiniboine River and Portage Ave, and Broadway from Osborne St to Portage Ave. Located 3.9 km from downtown and 7.9 km from the airport.

How to get there: From the airport, turn onto Wellington Ave. Turn right onto King Edward St (Route 90). Stay left, and continue to follow Route 90 onto the St. James Bridge. Turn left onto Academy Rd (there are signs for Academy Rd E). Continue straight onto Sherbrook St, which meets with Broadway.

Bus routes: 10, 17, 20, 29, 36
