Teh Osborne Village Canada day Celebration – Winnipeg’s largest and longest running street festival - takes place June 30 and July 1.

Originally established to commemorate the nation’s birthday, the event has evolved into a celebration of the people, shops, and restaurants of one of the most unique communities in the city. Each year, Osborne Village takes on a market atmosphere with musicians, artisans, restaurants and food vendors filling Osborne Street from River Avenue to McMillan.

The music is eclectic and showcases some of Winnipeg’s hottest performers. A few of the acts performing this year are Latin sizzlers, Trio Bembe, singer-songwriter, Rambling Dan Frechette, Celtic punkers, the Dust Rhinos and the fabulous JD Edwards Band. Catch the music at the Main Stage with MC Wally Landreth, and enjoy other various venues, such as Wild Planet and Music Trader, along Osborne.

While listening to the music, browse the many shops and artisan booths with their wares of jewellery, clothing (new and vintage), accessories and handbags, art work, and cds. Or mark the occasion with some body art – perhaps a permanent tattoo, or for the less committed, a henna or air-brush version.

For the younger folk there will be games, balloon sculptors and face painting which is free for all to partake, and everyone can enjoy a fast-paced Zumba workout or demonstrations by the Nafro Dance Coopertive and other active living demonstrations.

The many fine restaurants and cafés in the Village will be serving up their house specialties – from sushi to patay, African to Australian – a fusion of cuisines from around the world. The newest kids on the block are Unburger, Deadfish Café, La Bamba Mexican Restaurant, and Tea Story. As well, a variety of vendors will be selling street food such as Chinese barbecue, mini donuts, fries, hot dogs, ice cream, fresh squeezed lemonade, and more.

Show your national pride and join us for the flag raising at 11: 00 am Friday. Then at 11:00 pm the same day keep the spirit alive and help start a NEW tradition when everyone in Osborne Street will sing O Canada.

For your convenience there is foot and bike access to the festival via the recently reopened River Path.
