    RAW:almond is a temporary contemporary restaurant where some of the top chefs of Winnipeg will be collaborating to celebrate the beauty of our wonderful winter city on the ice. Each night chefs will be paired with chef Mandel Hitzer to create the 'coolest' culinary experience. The iconic dining hall, located at the corner of the Assiniboine and Red River, leans into the North Wind to help buffer against the elements. From the first to the last course and each glass of wine, this will prove the dining experience of the year.

    The WAG’s collection of Inuit art is extraordinary by any standard. Its geographic range and diverse media have brought international renown to the collection of over 11,000 artworks. As we celebrate our 100th anniversary, this major exhibition of 250 artworks (the largest exhibition of Inuit art ever mounted by the Gallery) reveals the scope of the collection and features many of the Gallery’s treasures.

    Peter Morin’s Ceremony Experiments 1 through 8 are a careful examination of interrupting colonization. Ceremony is a carefully organized examination of the world. There is a beginning, a middle, and an end to ceremony. The participants are activators of change and transformation often occurs. Indigenous knowledge is shaped by the flow of ceremony.

    My Winnipeg was created as a joint curatorial exploration of self-deprecating humour and surrealist-inspired allusions to current revelations of Winnipeg’s troubled past, political tensions, and gothic histories. For its final installment at Plug In ICA, the curators invited each participating artist to nominate a new Winnipeg artist and one artwork by that artist to partake in My Winnipeg: The Artists’ Choice.

    Benjamin Francis Leftwich released a new EP, In The Open, through Vagrant Records. The four-track EP features Ben’s ethereal vocals gliding over a wistful lament which proves that Ben was not just one of the most compelling new artists of last year, but is an enduring songwriting force. There is a haunting beauty to his vocal that is unmistakable and uniquely his own. Many can sing, few have a voice – and the latter is true for Benjamin Francis Leftwich.

    January 2013 marks the launch of the WAG’s exciting new partnership with the National Gallery of Canada: NGC@WAG. This venture will see the WAG host a number of exhibitions drawn almost exclusively from the NGC’s collection over the next three years. The WAG joins the Art Gallery of Alberta (Edmonton) and Museum of Contemporary Canadian Art (Toronto) as the third satellite gallery for the NGC’s collection!
