  • The Stafford Collection of Inuit Sculpture

    A recent donation of Inuit sculpture, the largest gift of Inuit art since the Harry Winrob Collection, fills important gaps in the WAG’s collection. The Stafford Collection consists of 121 sculptures mainly from the 1980s to the 2000s. Assembled over the past two decades, it includes works by such established artists as Osuitok Ipeelee, Davidee Atchealak, Aqjangajuk Shaa, Kiugak Ashoona, Luke Anowtalik, Nuna Parr, Lukta Qiatsuk, and Abraham Anghik Ruben.

    This new body of text based work was inspired by Claxton's stay in Winnipeg for six weeks in 2007. Incorporating her roots as a poet, Claxton has made two video installations based on her original writings she did while in Winnipeg. The set of works include performative text, digital text based, and watercolour and pencil.

    Martha Street Studio is pleased to announce a solo exhibition by Leo Simoens. Spanning approximately 30 years of production, this print-based retrospective features work that highlights the artist’s particular relationship to landscape, meditation and contemplation. Pre-occupied with how ‘forgotten corners’ of the landscape can evoke, on the one hand, feelings of sadness and melancholy and on the other, hope and well being, Simoens strives ‘to produce images that communicate an aesthetic awareness of our places’.

Moreover, MOMENT FACTORY, the multimedia firm behind the last Nine Inch Nails tour and some of Le Cirque du Soleil creation jumped on board to help Gagnon generate his most personal show ever, a combination of technology and creativity! Alongside to his famous saxophone solo whichhas always been and always will be part of his show, Gagnon added new instruments to his live performance! Audiences are amazed by his reproduction of Santana’s guitar solo on “Black Magic Woman” and by his rendition of both vocal and musical impression of Elton John’s “Your Song” where Gagnon even sits at the piano.
