Warm-up and celebrate the winter solstice with outdoor festivities and indoor extravaganzas.

Day 1
In February, become a voyageur at the Festival du Voyageur, and celebrate the “joie de vivre” or joy of life of the French Canadian and Metis adventurers. Take part in the street parties, admire grand-scale snow sculptures, watch sled dog races, walk or ice skate at The Forks along the world’s longest naturally frozen river trail and enjoy a full slate of indoor entertainment, concerts and shows.

Indulge in a visit to one of Winnipeg’s luxury hotel spas for some pampering. Ten Spa at The Fort Garry Hotel Spa and Conference Centre, Riverstone Spa at Inn at The Forks and Urban Oasis Mineral Spa at the Clarion Hotel offer excellent services. A massage, wrap, manicure or spa treatment is a perfect way to enjoy a relaxing afternoon.

Choose a pops concert featuring Broadway show tunes and popular orchestral pieces performed by the Winnipeg Symphony Orchestra for a wonderful evening of music. Enjoy award-winning dramas, comedies, musicals and classics in the intimate setting of the Manitoba Theatre Centre.

Be moved by the poignant tragedies of the Manitoba Opera and see captivating, world-acclaimed performances of Canada’s Royal Winnipeg Ballet whose productions include Dracula, Nutcracker, Wonderland and Moulin Rouge.

Day 2
Head to The Manitoba Museum where you can board a life-size replica of the Nonsuch, a ship that sailed from Hudson Bay to England in the 1600s, and then see how coins are made at the Royal Canadian Mint where more than four billion coins are produced annually.

Explore a winter wonderland by snowshoe or learn to track animals at FortWhyte ALIVE and Oak Hammock Marsh. Meet those daring young men and their flying machines at the Western Canada Aviation Museum, and explore the visual language of artists and examine the influences of art on society at the Winnipeg Art Gallery.

There is plenty of action to keep you warm at Winnipeg’s casinos, McPhillips Station and Club Regent. All year long the MTS Centre, Centennial Concert Hall and Winnipeg Casinos bring in headliner entertainment ranging from Celtic dance troupes and Irish singers to country artists and rock bands.
