Half Day
Start off your morning early with a complete tour of the city. Departing from Union Station, O Tours will take you on a discovery of Winnipeg as you visit the majestic Legislative Building, the St. Boniface Basilica, downtown and the well-known Forks Market. You will also get a chance the walk through the English Gardens and the Leo Mol Sculpture Garden in Assiniboine Park.
Continue your exploration of Winnipeg’s most popular destination, The Forks by refueling inside the market with a variety of ethnic food choices including authentic fish and chips and spicy empanadas. Then take in an interpretive tour of the site with costumed interpreters and a collection of curious objects and colourful stories. Or solve a history mystery using a GPS and a self-guiding booklet on one of three intriguing "Cache Me if You Can!" geocache cases.
Full Day 1
Then head out for a Routes on the Red tour. These nature walks offer a do-it-yourself option for exploring and discovering the city. Traipse St. Norbert and discover how this tiny settlement blossomed into a full-scale Catholic parish and then into the bustling suburb it is today. Or find calm and peace on the Seine River Corridor with a walk in the wilderness. Go back in time and rediscover the story of Manitoba’s earliest settlers.
If you’d prefer something with a guide, then head to the Exchange District and explore this 30-block area designated as a National Historic Site. The award-winning Exchange District Walking tours relate the tales of this significant area, revealing its deepest and darkest secrets. Take in a general overview of the East or West Exchange or opt for a theme tour that delves into subjects like the theatre district, Winnipeg’s connection to Hollywood or the area’s green buildings.
In the evening, head to the Manitoba Legislature for the Hermetic Code tour—also known as Winnipeg’s Da Vinci Code. This unforgettable evening of magic, mystery and architectural wonder unlocks the mysteries of Canada's most unique architectural landmark. Go on a step-by-step tour to reveal a trail of occult clues concealed in the building's architecture including hidden hieroglyphic inscriptions, numerological codes and Freemasonic symbols so intelligently masked they have escaped historians and visitors for nearly a hundred years.
Full Day 2
Start off the next day at Winnipeg’s newest landmark, the Canadian Museum for Human Rights. Sign up for a guided perimeter tour of the construction site or go high tech and use your cell phone to scan strategically-placed QR codes that take you on a personal tour. Scheduled for completion in 2013, this signature project is expected to bring worldwide attention to the city and the topic of human rights education.
Then take a walk across the Esplanade Riel Bridge into the city’s French Quarter. Here, you can go on a walking tour of Old St. Boniface where you’ll delve into the roots of this historic area. Learn about the magnificent St. Boniface Cathedral and the fire that nearly destroyed it all.
Next, head to the eclectic neighbourhood of the West End, where lunch is a global experience. Enjoy Vietnamese spring rolls at Viva, the most succulent Portuguese roast chicken and potatoes you’ve ever tasted at Chave D’Ouro or chow down on crispy samosas at India Palace. Then learn about this up-and-coming neighbourhood’s roots with a West End Mural Tour. Scattered throughout the blocks, colourful paintings depict the people and events that have come to define the city and area.
Finish off your day exploring the quirky underbelly of the city with a Muddy Waters tour. Here you’ll embark on an adventure that offers an in-depth look into Winnipeg’s colourful history as you explore haunted locales and stroll the streets reveling in tales of crime, plagues and greed.
In the evening, continue your look into all things ghoulish with a Haunted Winnipeg Bus Tour. Take in the historical tour and visit creepy corners and spooky spots. Or get your hands dirty with an investigative tour as you chase the spirits that call Winnipeg home and delve into places where orbs, visions and apparitions have been known to appear.
