Day 1

Start off your romantic weekend with a night at one of Winnipeg’s luxury hotels like The Fort Garry Hotel, Inn at The Forks, Fairmont Winnipeg or the Delta Winnipeg. Sleep in late and order breakfast in bed before heading out for the day.

(One hotel option is the Fairmont Winnipeg’s Sip, Savour, Sensation package, which includes dessert and wine delivered to your room, a three-course dinner and breakfast in bed with mimosas.)

Once you’re rested, get some fresh air at The Forks where you and your loved one can stroll hand-in-hand through the pathways. Once the river freezes, rent some skates and make your way down the River Trail, being sure to snuggle up inside one of several artistic warming huts along the way.

After your cheeks are rosy, head inside The Forks Market and warm up with a steaming cup of hot chocolate from the Human Bean.

Continue heating up at the Riverstone Spa at Inn at The Forks and take in a couple's massage. (Opt for their overnight ‘Ahhhhhhh’ package and handmade chocolate truffles and a bottle of sparkling wine are included in the deal.)

Then head back to your hotel room and get glammed up for a night at the theatre. Before settling into your seats, head to Restaurant Dubrovnik for an elegant dinner where a tuxedo-clad pianist greets you upon arrival. This beautiful character home oozes charm, back-dropped against the river and serves sumptuous fare like foie gras, chateaubriand and crepes suzette.

Or head to what is regarded as the most romantic restaurant in the city, Step 'n Out for an ever-changing menu of creative dishes fused with local ingredients and whimsical flair.

In the fall and winter, there are no shortage of dazzling arts options including performances from the Winnipeg Symphony Orchestra, Royal Manitoba Theatre Centre, Canada’s Royal Winnipeg Ballet, Le Cercle Moliere, Warehouse Theatre and Manitoba Opera.

Before heading back to your hotel for the night, stop in at Blufish and sip on a sweet lychee martini.

Day 2

Fuel up for the day in Assiniboine Park where you can watch the leaves change colour in the fall or hold hands and wander through a snowy winter wonderland once the temperature drops. Pop in to the Star Conservatory for breakfast where you can dine on a bevy of Benedicts from traditional to Greek to vegetarian or options like delectable brie and brandy French toast or buttermilk pancakes.

Next head back indoors to the Winnipeg Art Gallery where you can browse stunning works of art in a beautiful contemporary setting. Pop in for lunch at Stella’s Café located inside the University of Winnipeg. This hip spot serves up simple and delicious fare like roasted chicken and provolone sandwiches, sweet prawn curry and grass-fed beef chili.

Then it’s time for the ultimate in pampering at Ten Spa inside The Fort Garry Hotel. Take in the haman retreat for two. This three and half hour extravaganza will see you buffed from head to toe and leave you in a state of bliss.

(You can also take in The Fort Garry Hotel’s yoga spa weekends, which include hotel room, yoga classes, a dip in the hamam, dinner and the hotel’s fabulous Sunday brunch.)

Continue your weekend of romance with dinner at 529 Wellington. Located on the river, this stately mansion is home to one of the best restaurants in the city where perfectly-cooked steaks and a stocked wine cellar await. Be sure to try the warm blueberry bread pudding for dessert for the ultimate in decadence.

The evening is capped off with the cool and soothing sounds of saxophones and crooners at new hotspot Juss Jazz.
