North End

North End

Over the Canadian Pacific Railway mainline lies the North End, a culturally and architecturally diverse neighbourhood, best exemplified by the wide variety of stores, bakeries and restaurants to be found in the area.

Selkirk Avenue began as the “heart” of the North End, with its vast variety and large concentration of retail offerings and clothing stores. The Selkirk Avenue of today continues to feature many unique and ethnic offerings, and an emergence of education and training centres have popped up alongside an explosion of award-winning murals and sculptures by Indigenous and international artists, including a massive 40,000 square foot mural that envelops the New West Hotel.

Luda’s Deli is a North End hot spot that serves up a cavalcade of classic breakfast items, famous perogies, and hot sandwiches for lunch that keep people coming back time and time again. Equally as loved by locals is Gunn’s Bakery, whose influence extends far outside the North End, as they’ve built their reputation by consistently baking high-quality goods. This kosher bakery has many can’t miss hits, like bagels, cakes, cookies and an array of different breads. New on the scene is Modern Coffee, which offers locally-roasted beans and a selection of locally-sourced teas and pastries.

If you’re looking for entertainment, McPhillips Station Casino recently opened Loft 180, a modern, loft-style setting where you’ll enjoy globally-influenced dishes, enticing cocktails and local craft beer, alongside exciting live entertainment and gaming.

For energetic kids, U-Puttz Amusement Centre has all the exciting distractions to keep them entertained. You can start with 18 holes of glow-in-the-dark mini golf, complement it with some wild bumper car action, and top it off with a dash of post-apocalyptic themed laser tag. Or, take fun to new heights at Vertical Adventures, Winnipeg’s largest indoor rock climbing facility with over 5000 sq ft of adventures.
