I love telling people in Saskatchewan all about Winnipeg!

While I have lived in Saskatoon since the age of two, Winnipeg has always held a special place in my heart. Growing up, Christmas, Easter and summer holidays were spent in and around Winnipeg. Trips to The 1999 Pan-Am Games, various trips to the Forks. Goldeyes and Bomber games remain some of my favourite childhood memories. Since I was born in the city and have been there many more times than the average Saskatchewanian, I feel like it is my duty to be an ambassador to the city. Anytime Winnipeg comes up, the first reaction from the other party is almost always “Winnipeg sucks!”, to which I ask “Have you ever been there?”. The typical response to this is “Umm, well, no...”. So I proceed to let everyone know that Saskatoon’s new “River Landing” is like a smaller version of The Forks, the transit system in Winnipeg (from what I’ve experienced) is great, the 8 hour drive really isn’t that bad, Tenderloin Meats has some of the best kovbasa around, and the Blue Bombers are my favourite football team (this last one is often a dangerous topic to bring up!). Now that the Jets are back, I no longer have to jump on the band wagon and cheer for other Canadian hockey teams; I will only cheer for the Jets! I would love an excuse to get out to Winnipeg this fall and the Jets’ home opener would be the perfect opportunity to do so!
